Nashville Cats

"Well, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two Guitar pickers in Nashville"

That seems to be a sufficient number of Guitar pickers for any size town, but I suspect Nashville always needs more than most. I once made an attempt at taking Guitar lessons while I was in Alaska, but it seemed that something always came up and I never learned anything. My music abilities are nil. I can play the radio and I'll often fiddle with my whiskers, but beyond that I'm totally music illiterate. Once in the 6th grade I was asked about playing the French Horn in the elementary band at Riley, but the audition consisted of humming the National Anthem and after the band teacher heard me for about 4-5 seconds, I was asked to go back to my homeroom. I was never a threat to the Lovin' Spoonful.

"And they can pick more notes than the number of ants on a Tennessee anthill"

I never noticed any anthills on the Bardmoor golf course in Largo, Florida today, although I did get to see a good portion of the course. After the first day of the Vengeance in Venice, Brother Steve holds a commanding 2 stroke lead. I made it easy on him by 3-putting four times. Having a good time this week with Mom and Nick and now Steve, Sheila and Jeremy are here for Christmas, as well.

"Yeah, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two Guitar cases in Nashville"

I've been to Nashville a few times in my life and I don't recall seeing near that many Guitar cases, but I guess I wasn't really looking that closely. I do remember someone, maybe Hank Thompson, who had a swimming pool in the shape of a Guitar. My favorite trip to Nashville was with the Newman's back in the early 70's. I need to check with Les and see if he remembers that trip.

"And any one that unpacks his guitar could play twice as better than I will"

But no one could have had twice the good news that I have had over the past couple of weeks. My last post detailed the news of my daughter Megan's recent engagement to Patrick and yesterday my son Jay called with news that he and Rebekah got engaged this past weekend. Oh what a tremendous surprise for Ol' Simmons. Jay and Rebekah (and I'm not saying this because I'm biased) are two wonderful people. They complement each other so well and I love them both.

I'm definitely one lucky guy and I couldn't be happier. My next trip to Nashville will be in January to visit with Rebekah and Jay...they are my two Nashville Cats.

Congrats to Jay and Rebekah from the Wig.

Without getting on the net, Simmons, how many Mothers are in Nashville?

If you get within a thousand I will be impressed.

Congratulations Jay and Rebekah, this Feliz Navidad fiesta may require a few more bottles of Dom, anyone in that yet unannexed area of Linton should be warned to watch out for flying corks this weekend. Happy Holidays to the whole Sims clan. I love you all.

15,822? Within a thousand?

It's early and everyone's asleep. Reminds me of the old drunk who cut across a cemetery on the way home from the bar and fell into an open grave. When he woke up, he pulled himself up and looked around and all that he saw were tombstones. He just shook his head and said "What do you thought about that, here it is judgement day and I'm the first one up."

This says I'm not who I really am...Ol' Simmons

Ol' Simmons, congrats on the great family news! I have faith in you, forget the three putts, just brush 'em in!

Well, good news seems to be in the stars for you. I think I am going to move in with you. Congrats to Jay and Rebekah!

Although I shot a 39 on the front at Pelican Pointe yesterday, I managed to explode on the back and get myself 8 shots behind overall. After lunch I shot a 79 and climbed back to within 4 for the week. I took Curt's advice and started brushing them in.

Jeremy had a one under par round on the second 18 today...very impressive. That's why they gave him a free college education to play golf.

I still feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle with too little talent and now my body aches all over.

Another 36 holes today at Sarasota National...this is what vacations are all about.

Hedley, I have had a great stretch of luck and good fortune lately but I've got an awful small place to live. I am thinking about getting a maid though.

We exchanged presents last night and I got a 2010 Yankees desk calendar. Just what I need to track their march to number 28.

Just want to let you know to be very careful on what advice you take from Curt (he gets into trouble easily). Also, I take up very little room but will not wear a french maid outfit.

It's Christmas Eve and we're headed out to Oak Ford today for another 36. Yesterday I managed to whittle Steve's lead down to 2 on the first round, but my inability to fully comprehend the delicate nature of my golf swing propelled me to an 8 point deficit by the end of the day.

Today could be my last chance since rain is forecast for tomorrow. As the old saying goes, I definitely need to make hay while the sun is shining.

Ol' Simmons told me I could log on and update everyone on the match today. I hate to toot my own horn, but... TOOT! It was a beautiful day for golf and the lead was extended to an almost insurmountable 22 strokes. With at most another 18 holes possible due to dinner at the Hall tomorrow on Christmas, it will take a total collapse on my part to not end Ol' Simmons' Vengeance at Venice streak at 3.
