Sick and TiredPosted Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at 11:33 AM
If you are a preacher and you have to carry a gun because your remarks have become sufficiently inflammatory as to receive death threats, isn't it time to back down a bit? This despicable, illiterate, idiot of a person is a threat to our troops, the security of our homeland and to our very existence.
So the answer to Islamic fanaticism is Christian fanaticism? Who is this Pastor Terry Jones and why is he intent on getting more of our young people killed? Does he really have the right to incite riots and to place our soldiers in greater peril? Who are the idiotic sheep following this pathetic loser anyway? I've read that he has approximately 50 people in his congregation. Did someone leave the doors unlocked at the insane asylum? If our government cannot or will not stop this zealot and his flock of morons, then there is only one solution. The media must totally ignore them. There must not be any cameras or any reporting from the scene when this idiot begins this treasonous act. And if there is...just one television camera or just one reporter covering this act, they should be held equally accountable for aiding and abetting the enemy. They should be tried and convicted, just like Terry Jones and his congregation, for the murder of any of our troops who are slain in retaliation. I am so sick and tired of people being killed around this world in the name of religion that I just want to find myself a peaceful planet where religion has never been created. Besides...there are hundreds of proud, law abiding Americans who currently use the Mosque as a community center.
This christian would like to thank Mr. Sims for his factual article. Mr. Hobbs please turn the channel and get ALL the facts. We only want you to see things as they really are and not believe everything you hear on biased channels... investigate with your own intellect and check facts.
Mr Sims....keep up the good work and God Bless
Keith, I agree with your assessment of this guy, with one exception. He is not a christian. He is hiding behind religion, just as a lot of other nuts have. I feel your blog makes it sound as if christians are the problem with all the wars. While it is true religous beliefs are behind most wars,it is the individual leaders or whoever starts them that is at fault not religion. There are always going to be radicals who use religous beliefs to justify their acts. What this man is or was proposing to do was a senseless act and should be stopped, even if he is within his right to do it. Some things are so morally wrong that they should not be constitutionaly protected. If this man was a true christian, him and his followers would be praying for an end to the conflicts and not wanting to do an act that will only inflame things. LETS CALL THE MAN WHAT HE REALLY IS AND NOT CALL HIM A RELIGOUS LEADER, JUST CALL HIM A NUT CASE.
I believe that George W. Bush was sincere when he made his comments about Islam being a peaceful religion. He made these comments on more than one occasion, and he made them at a political cost to his administration. The expedient thing to do would have been to hold Islam responsible, the same way Gingrich, Palin and others are today.
Are you not aware that George W. Bush speaks with a forked tongue?
When my thoughts are aligned with written articles I often do copy and paste as it saves much typing plus, in this instance, I could not have said it better. In my opinion citing is nothing more than a matter etiquette or foo foo so to speak. Excuse me if you consider this standpoint to be improper but my statements still stand.
I don't know, DorindaJ. Bush was very clear that Islam was not to blame for 9/11.
"The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don't represent peace. They represent evil and war." Bush, September 17, 2001.
Also, it seems that you copied that entire comment from an online article regarding imperialist expansions without citing to it. Odd.
Agreed, very well stated Lil' Hahn!
George W. Bush administration exploited propaganda dehumanizing Muslims in order to promote the invasions and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq. The same kind of vicious propaganda aids Washington's continued threats against Iran and Somalia as well as its support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Anti-Muslim propaganda is essential to the U.S. war drive.
Blair, Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, and Rumsfeld were already in Afghanistan before any investigation began, before anyone knew anything about who attacked the United States and why. And as widely reported, Bush ordered plans to invade Iraq just a few hours after the WTC came under attack.
Categorically, 9/11 as an internal or external factor was inconsequential in relation to the premeditated response that Bush and Zionists gave to the attack. In other words, the decision to occupy Iraq, as well as the decision to declare permanent war against the Asian Arab Middle East under the pretext that Arabs, Islam, and Muslim traditions are violent was already moving on tracks regardless of who committed 9/11.
By opting to trash the law and discarding serious investigation of 9/11, the Bush administration has, in fact, scrapped the Constitution, the authority and principles of the courts (one is innocent until proven guilty,) and, in effect, declared the final transformation of the United States into a fascist state that no law can bind.
well said, lil'hahn.
Please hurry and find that planet.
The point is that this area is not zoned as a memorial, it is not zoned against religious activity (there are already churches and mosques there) so to forbid the mosque is simply religious intolerance, nothing more nothing less.
Who, exactly, among the people who are building this mosque killed anyone? Last I checked, it was 19 Saudi Arabian terrorists who brought down the towers, not this Imam or his congregation.
So, the question is, why are you saying that they killed thousands of Americans? It is no different from making a comment such as: The KKK were Christians, they killed thousands of Americans, many Tea Party members are Christians, therefore, Tea Party members are guilty of the KKK's crimes as well.
There were American Muslims who were killed in that attack as well. This country was founded on the principles of religious tolerance, Conservatives are supposed to be all about private rights and governmental non-interference. Ron Paul has eloquently stated that this was a chance for Conservatives to stand up and defend personal property rights.
It takes more than simple lip service. We have to practice tolerance as well, else we are no better than the extremists that you continue to confuse with all Muslims.
In a previous post, you said this was a simple local zoning issue. If that were true, then the issue was already decided by the local zoning commission. If the issue were simply a local zoning, then why did you bring up the murders of three thousand Americans by terrorists who have nothing to do with this mosque?
Osama bin-Laden would probably want this mosque to be forbidden by the US, since that demonstration of intolerance by Americans could easily be used as a recruting tool by al-Queda.
Great point lil'hahn!!!...not... The next time a gentleman's club, OTB and pawn shops kill thousands of Americans, we should encourage them to move somewhere else as well.
Gee, I wonder what else is on this Sacred Ground of the two blocks surrounding Ground Zero? How about a gentleman's club, and OTB and pawn shops? http://daryllang.com/blog/4421
Since reading Garth's post, I've been having nightmares where angry mobs of star-bellied sneeches are chasing me.
There is a distiction between "think" and "believe" for some this has obviously not been illuminated for you.
Yeah, burning books is over the line, of course it is over the line.
Let's all honor Patriot Day, 9-11. I'll never forget the unity, resolve and patriotism on 9-12-01.
This is a fitting video.

The "idiot preacher" is nothing more than a tool just as is the SPLC and many many others. Their purpose is to create discord among the masses to accommodate an agenda.
Simmons, you have more post than the idiot Preacher has followers.
The real story, follow the money.
http://www.infowars.com/the-real-story-p...
Cow Rancher, I just noticed you felt I was using a teleprompter. I just noticed the Preacher stated that if they will not build the mosque he will not burn the books. And I do think you mentioned not wanting the mosque being built. Here are some other names that quoted you, Sarah, Newt, and John the Tan Man, so I just wonder would they actually take a chance of hurting our men and women in uniform just to win an argument. And lets first admit one thing, telling the Muslims that they cant build on their own land is like telling them they are not as good as Christians. I think they are wanting to build the mosque for all the wrong reasons, but I would not put our troops in harms way just to win a Political advantage, and yes we all know what Political party has been against the mosque. By the way, who took the most trips their first year and a half in office, and yes I know were in a recession; I also know that a few years ago we were in two wars. I do want to apply for a job though, I would like to be the one counting how many golf trips the President takes; and how much his wife spends on her vacation. I just wonder if it was that big of a deal just a couple of years ago. Simmons, thank you for this blog, you are a true Patriot, and I mean that in every way, you not only have stated it you lived it.
Dont forget THING1 & THING2
When we were young a bunch of the neighborhood kids decided it'd be a good idea to burn all of our Dr. Seuss books.
At the time, I didn't think much of it.
Nor, did I think I'd ever have to deal with any repercussions.
Now, every night before I fall asleep I'm haunted by Star-Bellied Sneetches.
[QUOTE} Cleric Rusli Hasbi told 1,000 worshippers attending Friday morning prayers in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, that whether or not he burns the Quran, Jones had already "hurt the heart of the Muslim world."
"If he'd gone through with it, it would have been tantamount to war," the cleric said in the coastal town of Lhokseumawe. "A war that would have rallied Muslims all over the world."
This gives you some insight into what Muslims think and what length they will go to over this. There is a real threat to our troops, but it is the same one that exists now. Don't think for a minute that there won't be demonstrations/riots over this on our soil if this person goes ahead with this. Extreme Mulims reside in this country too and this may be what they need to step out.
But this whole thing brings up another question. There are roughly 160 million self proclaimed Christians in this country, so why are we not making a stand for our Holy book? It's because many Christians don't even take their Bibles to church anymore. Their Bibles are collecting dust on a shelf somewhere and it is no more Holy to them than any other book they have.
Christians just sit back and shake their heads when we see a flag burning or a Bible burning(or hole being drilled in it). We never speak out against these things. We never make a visble condemnation either when some idiot that professes to be a Christian blows up an abortion clinic, or a "church" pickets soldiers funerals in the name of God(not my God). We just shrug our shoulders and sit back and go on with our external faith. We do not know what it is like to be persecuted for our faith in this country, but that time is coming.
If you are a Christian, and these things bother you, then we better start praying and we better be standing firm in what we believe or the Muslim train will run this country over. Now before anyone twists this around, I am not suggesting or condoning any violent acts when I say make a stand. We simply need to stand up for what we believe while we still can.

What about US troops burning Bibles?
http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapc...
....and so the wussification of the United States of America continues....
By Gosh,
Let's make sure this dingbat doesn't burn a book.
100,000 troops should do it.
How in the world does a person with thirty people in his congregation have ten times that amount show up at press conferences?
granite,
Just in case you didn't catch the sarcasm...
I don't want the mosque built or the book burned.
People just need to be more compassionate.
Just try to get a "thank you" out of a young person today.
Our generation has failed in true patriotism, manners, etiquette and worshiping God through being a good witness.
I apologize if I didn't explain this further to you.
....and so the wussification of the United States of America continues....
Cow Rancher, who made this statement? " I say that if the Muslims have the right to build at Ground Zero, then this idiot preacher has the right to burn a Koran".
Good deal!!
According to an Associated Press news release the plans to burn the Quaran have now been canceled by Pastor Jones.
I wish to contrast this with a few other events.
Like, for instance "**** Christ", an alleged work of art, which featured a crucifix immersed in urine.
The total number of Christian whackos who went on a murderous rampage worldwide as a consequence of this exercise of "Free Speech"? Zero.
This isn't the only example, of course. Denigrating Christian symbolism is somewhat of an art form. New York's Cooper Union exhibited an "artistic piece" that consisted of a man with his pants down and a cross extending from his *******. The caption? "The day I became a Catholic"
Number of violent murderous rampages as a consequence of this exercise in Free Speech? Zero.
But when a cartoonist, Mr. Westergaard, decided to draw a man oddly reminiscent of Muhammad with a bomb in his turban, he was threatened with death in official "fatwas" of the Muslim religion.
By the way, I'll predict right now that he won't burn the book anyway.
He has received his attention and now he is receiving death threats.
He appears to be a coward and a poor preacher. I think he won't go through with it.
So far, my predictions have been pretty accurate.
Go meat!!
Oracle granite,
You are great at taking words out of context. Congratulations, Robert Gibbs (and the teleprompter-in-chief)would be proud of you.
Where did I say it was OK to "threaten our troops and civilians"?
The whole context is: "I do agree that the pastor is a loser and his stunt will no doubt inflame the Muslims. It will also threaten our troops and civilians." This will save the readers time re-reading the drivel from the granite. Please try to remain accurate and stop the spinning.
The presidents' addiction to golf and vacations has everything to do with the situation (it also shines light on his incompetence during the oil spill). As soon as he opened his mouth and made a comment about the stupid book burning, and the fact that he is supposed to be the "Commander in Chief" first while protecting and defending the Constitution brought Obama into the conversation. He is more worried about what image he is projecting about himself than his Constitutional duties. There is no doubt that he is the most egotistical, greedy narcissist our country has ever endured. I know, let's have a Koran-burning summit over a couple of beers, the preacher, Biden and Osama bin Laden.
Pop, you are right on all counts.
I hope the Gainesville Fire Department penalizes this nutball bigtime for the risk he is putting our troops in.
Thank God we will take away his purse strings in 54 days!
Very well said,POP.
Though idiots like Mr. Jones being punished for their irresponsible actions when the U.S.A. is in a state of war, when the generals on the ground say NO to Mr. Jones' stunt, with so many of our heroic men and women in harms way, makes perfect sense to me.
A temporary law banning such activity as burning the Koran would get my vote.
The Gainesville Fire Dept has stated that this dude has no permit for an open fire. I wonder if they may have something up their sleeve.
Why am I not surprised that one person that typed a post made this statement and then turned the whole blog Political?
"I do agree that the pastor is a loser and his stunt will no doubt inflame the Muslims. It will also threaten our troops and civilians".
"I say, if the Muslims have the right to build at ground zero, then this idiot preacher has the right to burn a Koran".
So in this person's view it is OK to "threaten our troops and civilians".
Now someone please tell me what the President playing golf had to do with this Blog?
Would we be having this conversation if this man was not a religious leader? This man has succeeded in doing exactly what he wanted to do...draw attention to himself. I do agree that it "could" potentially endanger our troops, but Radical Islamist don't need a reason to attack us. There goal is to wipe us out. I am sure they will issue a bounty on this man's head as well, much like they did the cartoonist and author in the past.
What really bothers me is the fact that we have become tolerant of every view point in the world. We want everyone to like us so much that we will extend olive branch after olive branch but get nothing in return.
Why are we not having a discussion about the proposed Islamic center at Ground Zero? This man certainly has the right to build it there, but why aren't they trying to win over the local populace who have lost loved ones there? They don't care!
I see no outrage here or on the news when Islamic radicals want to burn our flag and hold signs up saying "death to America". There is no outrage expressed when countries want to burn the Bible and kill people for reading it. There is no outrage at the picketing of soldiers funerals, yet one nut in Florida with 50 people following him has stirred up the entire world.(Thank you media!) Come to America because we tolerate everything!
We need to get out of the bubble we live in and realize whether this man burns the Quran or not, Islamic terrorist are going to kill soldiers overseas and kill Americans on our own soil. Car bombs in America are not that far down the horizon.(they have aleady tried)Bring our soldiers back and let them protect our soil.
Whether you agree with this nut in Florida or not(I do not), his act will not change one way or another the fact that Islamic radicals want to wipe us out.
We just had 2 soldiers killed and 9 wounded in the protected confines of a compound, by an Iraqi soldier we trained, and it had nothing to do with a book burning. We are not Islamic nation and they will want to kill us until we become one.
Common sense prevents us from yelling "Fire!" in a crowded building, even though we have freedom of speech...
I am with you all the way on this one, Keith.
Good way to end it my friend. It is good that we can differ in opinions and not go to war.
"Why don't we just surrender, then? Certainly that would make them hate us less, wouldn't it? In what other war did we ever worry about the enemy's feelings? This is a war, isn't it? Maybe we should concentrate on killing the enemy and you can worry about their feelings later." - dhobbs
We are currently in the position where we are attempting to rebuild the governments and infrastructure of two countries while at the same time fighting an insurgency. Part of the strategy and tactics used by our field commanders is to win over the local populace while still fighting insurgents. It is an extremely difficult task, but our servicemen have been doing an excellent job. The local populace in these areas practice the same religion as the insurgents, Islam. The entire Islamic world is not our enemy and most soldiers, sailors and airmen would like to keep it that way. This senseless act of burning the Koran would inflame the hearts of many friendly Muslims and create more problems than you could imagine. Some borderline Muslims would be easy prey for recruitment by the most radical groups. All of this weakens our military position in Afghanistan and Iraq, causing many unnecessary deaths of our troops.
In Vietnam we faced a similar situation of trying to win the hearts and minds of the people while still fighting the Viet Cong. In World War II we fought the German Army in Europe, but showed mercy and kindness to the German civilian population. There are often many other people on the field of battle other than the uniformed soldiers fighting each other. Were all Vietnamese our enemy? No. Were all Germans our enemy? No. Is the entire Islamic world our enemy? No.
So why should we do something stupid to encourage more people to join the ranks of our enemy?
Are we a "squishy soft" country? I don't think so, but it looks like we are not a very smart one right now.
In my humble opinion:
There are good people and bad people.
There are bad people who hide behind a religion or the title of preacher/pastor/reverend/priest or whatever the title may be, and people will listen to them simply because of their title.
There are good people getting a bad name because of all those bad people.
No matter what religion people say they are, they are gonna do what they want as a HUMAN, and then say it was in the name of their religious beliefs.
These people are also giving God a bad name.
Our soldiers are out there for us, because they are in the situation where our country's leaders told them its in our best interest. They aren't there to be killed because of stupid sh** that somebody does or says in the heat of a moment for publicity or whatever reason. They want to come home alive to the families who are waiting for them and missing them!
A lot of todays "religious leaders" don't know diddly about true religion, or what it takes to be a truly good human.
To dhobbs...have you ever heard of the KKK? They were largely a Christian-based group and I'm fairly certain they killed a few innocent people in their day. For a few more examples you can peruse this website...
http://articles.exchristian.net/2002/10/...
It always amazes when someone reads what another person wrote, and only sees two or three words and completely turns around what the other person said! Simmons wrote that this preacher is a despicable, illiterate idiot and his 50 or so "sheep" So then someone states that he said that ALL christians are despicable, illiterate idiots! Let's just break this down:
1. Does this preacher have the right to do what he wants to do? Yes. "Freedom of Religion"
"Freedom of Speech"
2. Is it right? You be the judge. Peronally I believe it is not. I believe he is just as narrow minded as the terrorist who attacked us on 9/11.
I find it very troubling that he wants to commit this act on a day that should be for reflection and rememberance. I wonder if someone will die because of this man's actions and the retaliation that may follow. I, personally believe that everyone has the right to worship their religion. That does not mean I agree with their religion. It is my prayer that people who are worshipping anyone or anything besides God and Jesus Christ will have their eyes opened to the One True Light. We should pray for people and be a witness to Christ, maybe not always in words but with our actions as well. I pray for this preacher that will see that Jesus would not want this action to be taken. I also pray that no one will suffer because of the action if this man. We should serve God by being humble, loving, prayerful and a witness to Jesus Christ. Sometimes I am reminded of a one-liner out of a Christian humor book..."Many people want to serve God. But only as advisers!"
This is not a First Amendment issue; even this idiot has the right under the First Amendment to make his statements. However this inflammatory act is still treasonous in my opinion.
"Article 3, Section 3, Clause 1 of the Constitution specifies that the giving of aid and comfort to the enemy is an element in the crime of treason. Aid and comfort may consist of substantial assistance or merely attempting to provide some support. Actual help or the success of the enterprise is not necessary. Any act that deliberately strengthens or tends to strengthen enemies of the United States or that weakens or tends to weaken the power of the United States to resist and attack such enemies is characterized as aid and comfort."
"Any act that deliberately strengthens or tends to strengthen enemies of the United States..."
This is exactly what this act will do...it will breed more hatred and become a recruitment tool for Taliban insurgents, al-Qaeda and radical elements within Islam worldwide.
"...or that weakens or tends to weaken the power of the United States to resist and attack such enemies..."
Gen. Petraeus stated, "It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort. It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community."
I cannot understand how any of you would not want to support our troops. I cannot understand how you could condone any act that would weaken our forces. What these troops are facing is an extremely daunting task that doesn't need to be exacerbated by the senseless acts of some self serving idiot. If you can sit there and say "Hey this guy is protected by the First Amendment, so it's ok with me," then you are telling our troops, our sons and daughters, that you don't care about them. Look at the protests in Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Kuwait, Bahrain, Malaysia...some are countries where we are not even maintaining a military presence and they are begging for this act to be stopped. The harm this stupid little man could bring to the world is incalculable.
And what does the perpetrator of all this worldwide chaos have to say now? "As of right now, we are not convinced that backing down is the right thing."
According to the Bible, Jesus Christ is quoted in the Gospel of Matthew as saying, "So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you."
I saw this one the other day: Save a book and burn a preacher.
Our troops have been getting killed for years now and it didn't take the burning of a book to start it or keep it going. I say let him do what he feels he needs to do. The Muslims will continue to hate us for the same reasons they've always hated us no matter if the Koran is burned or not.
Amen.
This blog is sounding a little too fair and balanced.
Burning a Koran is not treason. Burning a Bible is not treason. Running our national debt up to $14 trillion is closer to treason. Ramming a healthcare bill through on reconciliation is treason. A president aking 8 vacations (and 48 rounds of golf)in 18 months should be treason. A first lady who had an entourage of 70 people on a trip to Spain should be treason (35 hotel rooms at $2,500 per room). Well, you get the point. Unless we define treason, then it can be used broadly.
How can it be more offensive to you people than the way Hollywood desecrates Christians? I don't remember any blogs when Penn and Teller drilled a hole in a Bible on Showtime. People actually paid to see them do it. http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/arc...
I "sick and tired" of Americans standing up for the people (radical Muslims) who want to kill them (us).
I do agree that the pastor is a loser and his stunt will no doubt inflame the Muslims. It will also threaten our troops and civilians.
No doubt, some of the same people who are screaming that this moron shouldn't hurt a Koran are the same one's who think the Muslims should build at ground zero due to "first ammendment rights".
I say, if the Muslims have the right to build at ground zero, then this idiot preacher has the right to burn a Koran.
Both the preacher and the mosque building Muslims at ground zero have no class, no compassion, no common sense, no foresight and no support among the majority of Americans. Just because our Omnipotent leader condones the mosque, doesn't mean he is right. It does mean that his moral compass is pegged on "South" just like the preacher. I agree with Kieth...ignore them!
Have faith people, only 55 days until November 2!!!
Keith:
You have an interesting blog. I figure if you dig deep enough you can link religion to any conflict/war and if I dig deep enough I can link evil people with any conflict/war. Religion is not the real problem; it is the heart of the person performing the acts. I see a lot of religious people with the right heart doing amazing things for society. I also see where religious people do some amazingly cruel things. When these events happen I do not automatically assume that their religion is bad, but I look at the person and their actions. When a person stands behind a religion that teaches love, peace, and service, but does nothing that shows these, then I see the person as the problem and not the religion.
Now about your basic complaint. The bottom line is the pastor is not breaking any laws in what he is attempting to do. You do not like it and so do several others. But he has the right to organize his little party and have his little campfire. I personally do not like it because he is hiding behind a church and thus causing people like you, and others, to condemn religion in general. I am a member of First Christian Church and I hope that my actions and my beliefs go hand in hand. I also hope and pray that all Christians can make a difference in this community and beyond.
Now I have a question for you to think about. Islamic fanatics have a lot of problems with America in general. If burning the Koran is thought of a something that would incite them to hate us more, then what happens if tomorrow General Petraeus announces that we need to stop drinking alcohol or eating certain foods because we are inciting Islamic fanatics to hate us more.
Now for all the lurkers here who read these posts, I have a son in the Army. So statements like 'endanger our troops' hit home greatly. But I also feel that he is fighting so that I have the right to go to church and the pastor has the right to burn a book.
"But I'll tell you what: right after the first rally of moderate Muslims who are protesting against the vile acts committed in the name of Islam, that's when I'll change my tune."
Ok, give this a try (bet you never heard about this on Fox news, eh?):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-10900478
"A Muslim group has opened what it calls the UK's first summer camp against terrorism.
The three-day event in Coventry is expected to see more than 1,000 young Muslims at sessions teaching religious arguments to use against extremists.
The event has been organised by the Minhaj ul-Quran to promote a fatwa, or religious ruling, against terrorism by its leader Dr Muhammad Tahir ul-Qadri.
Dr Qadri launched the fatwa in London in March.
'Spiritual war'
Opening the summer camp, Dr Qadri told the audience - predominantly made up of British Muslims - to reject al-Qaeda and its "cancer" that was spreading through their faith.
The populist Pakistani cleric's 600-page theological study is billed by his followers as the most comprehensive and clear denunciation of the arguments deployed by jihadists to justify violence including suicide bombings and the targeting of civilians."
Lol- spellcheck assured me I spelled "is" correctly.
Keith...lol...how do I love thee?, let me count the ways...
Man oh man...and just when it gets boring, you unleash the dragon~
Great blog!
"...Truth is an arrow, and the gate is narrow, that is passes through..." -B. Dylan
"Is burning the Koran at a time when the religion based on the Koran is committed to wiping out the West (that's you, by the way) sane? Sounds sane to me. And provocative, which is what this preacher wants."
Which Muslims, though? All of them? I'll leave you with a few words from President George W. Bush:
After 9/11 President Bush reminded Americans that the attack was the work of a few terrorists and not the Muslim people. "The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam," Bush said a few days after 9/11.
"Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren't religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that -- we had a person blow up our -- blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that's not a Christian act to kill innocent people.
"And I just simply don't subscribe to the idea that murdering innocent men, women and children -- particularly Muslim men, women and children in the Middle East -- is an act of somebody who is a religious person.
People burn our flag in this country and all across the globe. In the name of religion, Westboro Baptist church pickets the funerals of soldiers and applauds the fact that they were killed because the USA allows homosexuality.
I agree this guy is nuts, but he has the freedom, provided by our soldiers, to do exactly what he is doing. The problem I have is that a man with 50 followers gets this type of attention by our media. The media is creating this firestorm. If we want to be outraged then lets be outraged over flag burning and picketing funerals and a number of other things we can choose!
We will never see these things by the mainstream media because instead of reporting the news they want to make it! Fifty one people (plus or minus) in a country with over 300 million people are speaking for all of us because of the attention paid to him by the media. Now that is a painting with a broad brush and we're all getting covered by it.
I looked at that guys picture before reading the article and wondered where he was concealing the handgun. Someone needs to tell him a handgun isn't going to help him with the situation he's in. And at some point that he's going to be famous twice when they whack him in some spectacular fashion.
Thanks for the Blog, Keith.
Apparently some people fail to realize that there are fanatical sects in all religions. It seems dhobbs is using a pretty broad brush to paint his/her picture of Islam.
I'm sure that Christians haven't killed anyone in the name of religion throughout the years.
Again, you have taken one comment and created a huge generalization out of it. Where did I say that anyone was on "even footing in the evil department?"
I, like Simmons, was talking about a single individual. Do you think that what that preacher is doing is ok? Do you even think it is sane?
Please note that I am not asking if Christians in general are sane or not ok, neither am I making any judgement at all about how much evil balances out other evil, whatever that may mean.
dhobbs: Simmons did not call Christians despicable illiterate idiot. He called this one despicable illiterate idiot, who happens to be a "Christian," AND A THREAT TO OUR TROOPS, a despicable illiterate idiot.
Him and his flock of 50 sheep deserve these words, would you not agree?
To spread this out and say that he is calling 100's of millions of Christians the same is a bit of a flight of fancy.
Just like saying that justifies calling 100's of millions of Muslims around the world the same.
"We" will rile a lot more than existing fanatics by burning the Koran. It serves absolutely no positive purpose. It can only lead to further divide and bloodshed.
I've never condoned killing from any fanatical group. Our Commander in Afghanistan asked that this book burning be stopped because he knows how it will not only rile existing fanatics but facilitate the recruitment of more fanatics. And what does this book burning do for this idiot preacher, nothing but give him headlines. Regardless of the pain and suffering he could cause by doing this he still wants his 15 minutes of fame. I feel a deep hurt for the families of our soldiers, sailors and airmen who will be destroyed by this insane act of treason. But if you think the lives of these kids are so insignificant as to support such idiocy, I'm afraid nothing I could say or do would sway you from your opinion.
Great article. Wiglund so glad to see your name again; you are a special person.
Great words and well said. Our country is supposed to be all about freedom of religion, but that is to worship,of ones choice. However,I agree the aid to killing any one at any age in the name of religion is totally wrong.
Imagine there's no heaven, it isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for, or no religion too.
Great Blog!
well said.
