Angel finds a new home

Sydney and Angel
Seeing a little girl proudly smile her appreciation is worth a 1,000 words to me. That's especially important when that little girl is my granddaughter.

My nearly four-year-old granddaughter Sydney had one of those smiling moments on Sunday morning.

She welcomed her new puppy -- Angel -- into her family, which lives in Greenwood.

Her mom -- who is my youngest daughter -- her dad and younger brother, Xavier, had just returned from vacationing in Florida. They stopped by our house in route home to pick up their new pet.

The small six-week old puppy hails from Greene County -- one of two pups in a litter that came from some good family friends of ours -- Mike and Karen Burnett.

Angel is a jet black-colored mixed breed -- a strange mix at that.

She's half miniature Doberman Pinscher and half -- well, I'm not sure, but her mother looks like "Toto" from the movie "Wizard of Oz".

Anyway, Sydney and her brother are thrilled with the new family addition, no matter what the mutt grows up to look like.

Today, he's a cute little ball of black fur with some patches of brown and white, which is eager to learn a lot of new things. They've got a new pet and buddy.

I know Mike and Karen were really more attached to the little pup than they cared to admit. I could see that in their eyes when we picked up Angel on Saturday night preparing for Sydney's arrival on Sunday morning.

But if they could have seen the look on Sydney's eyes as she carefully and proudly carried her new little puppy around, they would have been very pleased.

Angel's got a new home.

Thanks Mike and Karen.
