Super thoughts on a 'I don't really care' Super Bowl Sunday

Updated: After the game

Well, I guess I missed that one. Packers win in a pretty good game. Too many errors by the Steelers to pull it out after a comeback in the second half.

Vince Lombardi is probably looking down from the heavens and smiling. The trophy is back in Green Bay.

It's Super Bowl Sunday and frankly I don't really care who is playing or who wins this "Colt-less" game.

My beloved Indianapolis Colts are home watching it on the television just like I am going to be doing later this evening in my quaint rural Newberry living room with a group of friends.

So what do you do when your interest in Super Bowl XLV rivals that of shoveling some more snow, walking on glass barefoot, or watching a marathon of Home Shopping Network?

You eat and then you eat some more -- trying to let the food take away the pain of the disappointing, injury-riddled season that the Colts experienced.

Reality is football is over in my mind, except for one more game with a very long pre-game show that will probably last most of the day.

I just hope the over-priced television ads make for an entertaining evening.

By the book if you are a Colts fan, you want the Steelers to get pounded all over the field.

You would be happy to see the famed Steeler "Terrible Towels" turned into crying towelettes.

It probably wouldn't upset you too much if one of the Packers grabbed a good hand-full of Troy Polamalu's hair and gave it a good yank pouncing him to the ground in Texas Stadium.

And Big Ben, it probably wouldn't make you mad to see him get slapped around a little bit and laid down on his back a few times.

And those are the nice things.

Expect Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison to cheap shot someone cutting across the middle -- again -- and you'll get up and scream at the TV, but hey, that's football.

As far as the Green Bay Packers -- do you really care?

Yes, the Cheeseheads have a tradition-rich history and the dang Super Bowl trophy is even named after their revered former coach -- The Vince Lombari Trophy, so I guess it would be nice to see his green-and-yellow clad children of another generation grab the trophy after the game. A good story line, but hardly of much interest to us football fans here in southern Indiana.

As far the game goes, my heart tells me to root for the Packers, but my mind says it's going to be a big day for the Steelers.

I still have fond memories of being a Steeler fan during the days of Terry Bradshaw. Jack Ham, Dwight White-nicknamed Mad Dog, Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, Franco Harris, Mean Joe Greene, Mel Blount, John Stallworth and Purdue grad Rod Woodson.

In a "I really don't care way", I've decided I'm going to be rooting for the Steelers because their roster sports 10 players from the Big 10 (including Antwaan Randle El from Indiana and Purdue's Eugene Bright) compared to just 4 for the Packers (including rookie TE Mike Neal who'll miss the game because of injury).

You've got to search deep for something to hang your hat on in this game, so I'm going with the Big 10 edge.

It will be the Steelers standing tall at the end, 34-24.

Enjoy the game, and be safe and responsible during the pre-game and post-game parties...most of us do have to go to work on Monday.

Preferably I would watch a local team play before worrying about the Big Money Sports. There is no big sports showing morals as I think they should, but the local schools are doing a great job win or lose. I wish them all the best in their achievements and ask them to study hard in their school studies.
