Spring tax statements coming soon
The budget and tax rates have been set and we are in preparation for the mailing of spring tax statements. Last year was a struggle with the mailing of annual tax statements for Greene County and many of the surrounding counties.
The statements were mailed however, it seems a higher than normal percentage of statements did not get delivered. We contacted the post office locally. We were referred on to the Great Lakes Division with our concerns. Ultimately, I ended up filing a complaint and requested an investigation into the situation. The result was as frustrating as the process. I asked to be able to tour the sorting center or perhaps have a press release drafted from the post office to offer clarification to the taxpayers as to what happened. This is their response:
“I sent your requests to our Communications Director, Mary Dando. The Postal Service does not usually allow customers to tour distribution facilities due to safety and security concerns. She would be able to assist with any press releases. We do have Quality Control employees looking for any “break-downs” in the flow of your mail from the Plant back to the delivery units.” ~ Heather Stout A/C&IC Manager | Greater Indiana District |
USPS | 3939 Vincennes Road, Indianapolis, IN 46298-9996
This was the last real answer we received in August 2019. I never heard from Mary Dando. I emailed on a few occasions but nothing else came to light.
With that being said, we have decided to have the vendor that printed our tax statements last year mail them as well. L&D Mailmaster can track the statements in the mailing process better than we can here. This will bypass the Indianapolis sorting center completely. Please take note, all statements will be grouped together by mailing address, not by name. Several of our farmers and large parcel owners have become accustomed to the statements coming all together despite name and address. We know so many of you that we try to make those accommodations as often as possible. However, this year that is impossible for our vendor to be able to complete this task. Please change any addresses that you need to change as soon as possible. After March 1, 2020 the addresses in the system will be where the tax statements are mailed.
We will continue to work with every one of you to ensure the best possible service. Know that we are happy to serve each of you and hope to continue to do so for the next four years.
