Lyons community honors veterans with a dinner on Saturday evening

Col. Joe Dixon, Jr., commander at Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA), was the guest speaker at the Lyon's Veteran's Dinner on Saturday evening. Col. Dixon, who is a 1985 graduate of Eastern Greene High School, started his assignment on the Crane base June 20. He is the son of former Eastern Greene School Superintendent Joe Dixon.

Judy Mullis served as master of ceremonies for Saturday's Veteran's Dinner at Lyons. She and her husband, Buck, are heading up the committee that is constructing a veteran's memorial near the Lyons Town Hall.

Tyler Mullis hold a wooden clock he made high over his head during the auction. The clock drew a high bid of $160 from Col. Joe Dixon. Proceeds will be donated to the Lyons Veteran's Memorial fund.

Matt Huckabee, a member of 8th District Congressman Larry Buschon's staff brought greetings to the dinner from the U.S. Representative, who was unable to attend.
