Ronald L. Doris, 69, of Paris, Ill., passed away at 7:19 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 in the emergency room at Sullivan County Hospital at Sullivan. He was retired after a teaching career of 38 years with Paris High School. He was born Feb. 21, 1941 in St. Anne, Ill., the son of the late Andrew and Arlene (Hoover) Doiris. He married Janet Newlin on Feb. 1, 1964 in Effingham, Ill., and she survives. Other survivors include a son, Jeff (Vickie) Doris, of Bloomfield; a daughter, Shelly Doris of Denver, Col.; two brothers, Richard (Joyce) Doris and David Doris; two sisters, Carolyn (Harmon) Davis and Cheri (Bob) Virgin; as well as three grandchildren, Emmalee, Sam and Lilliann Doris. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Paris, the First United Methodist Church of Paris Choir, Paris Lions Club, the Association of Paris Teachers, as well as a member of both the Paris District 95 School Board and the Paris Cooperative High School Board. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing, attending their band and chorus concerts, and especially the time they spent together building a tree house. He enjoyed painting and was an avid supporter of Faith in Action, to which he gave much of his time to their cause. Services celebrating his life will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Following cremation, internment of ashes will be private in Edgar Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Paris, or the Edgar County Community Foundation Ron Doris Scholarship Fund.
