She was born February 23, 1939 in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Edward and Ludmilla (Balk) Fritsche.
Betty was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Prairie du Chien. She married Norman Berns on Sept. 7, 1960 at St. Gabriel's Church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1996. She worked at Grelle's Department Store and later for Wall Street both in Prairie du Chien. She was an active member of St. Gabriel's Parish.
She is survived by her sons; Rodney (Shari) Berns of Eagle River, AK and Bart (Lisa) Berns of Linton, IN, a brother, Edward (Patricia) Fritsche of Soledad, CA, sisters, Rose (Gerald) Wright, Anna (John) Rink and Mary Frydenlund all of Prairie du Chien, Thersea (Charles) Morel of Muscoda, WI and Margaret (James) Baldukas of Trotwood, OH, grandchildren, Audrey, Nicholas, Matthew, Ryan and Morgan, great grandchildren, Emily, Evelyn and Benjamin, sister in law Karen Fritsche of Prairie du Chien, an aunt Mae Balk along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Charles, Robert and William Fritsche along with a brother in law Art Frydenlund.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 25, from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Thomas Edward Chesnut, 83, Anderson, died at his residence on May 7, 2011 following an extended illness.
He was born on April 12, 1928 in Chicago to John and Jeannie (Pepiot) Chesnut.
He served in the US Navy during World War II.
He was an industrial engineer with DOD Naval Weapons Support Center for 30 years and retired in 1976. He also worked for Borg Warner until he retired in 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruth A. Chesnut, children David T. (Tracy) Chesnut of Bluffton, Ind., John Chesnut of Bloomfield, Brian (Darla) Chesnut of Bloomfield, Marilyn (Steve) Roberts of Tampa, Carolyn (DJ) Spencer of Bloomington, Teresa (Mark) Bohn of Bloomfield; step-children Christina (Brian) Benedict of Clyde, Ohio, David (Michelle) Bobo of Noblesville, Kevin (Sherry) Bobo of Anderson; grandchildren Jason (Heather) Chesnut, Anthony Vest, Keygan Spencer, Stephanie Tarr, Kimberly Roberts, Deanna (Jeremy) Potts, D'lee Chesnut; step-grandchildren: Sharon Willhoit, Dustin Bobo, and BreAnne Bobo; great grandchildren Quinn Vest, Lucy Vest, Bailee Chesnut, Micah Chesnut, Gavin Tarr and Rylynne Potts; step-great-grandchildren: Jaiden Willhoit, Trinity Willhoit and Saphera Willhoit.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Amber Brooke.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson with the pastors Ryan Rasmussen and James Proctor officiating. The burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by VFW Post 266 Honor Guard of Anderson.
The visitation will be on Wednesday, May 11 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Fellowship Masonic Lodge 681.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.
