An elderly Sullivan County man found dead Monday afternoon just off a county road west of Pleasantville has been identified as Gledis A. Frye. According to First Sgt. Duke Smith of the Indiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations in Terre Haute, Frye was 71 years of age. He had been reported missing from his rural Sullivan County home since July 10...

Sullivan County attorney J. Carter Hale died following a tragic July 20 boating accident on Dugger Lake. According to officer James Goodwin of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, Hale, 31, of Sullivan, was on "a towing device" behind a boat when the accident occurred. Hale was reportedly riding on a knee board which was being pulled behind a motor boat when he struck a rock wall on the east end of the Lake...

Vandals struck at the Lyons Park sometime Saturday night and the Lyons police department are looking for information on their identity. The vandals painted on signs that laid out the rules for the park's use. Willard W. Fry, 86, of Linton, passed away at 8:45 p.m., Monday, July 22, 2002 at his residence. Born June 2, 1916 in Pleasantville, he was the son of Claude and Ollie (Trinkle) Fry. SULLIVAN ---- J. Carter Hale, 31, of Sullivan, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. Born Dec. 2, 1970 in Vincennes, he was the son of Frank R. "Butch" and Francie "Fran" (Knotts) Hale. He was the attorney for Sullivan County and owned and operated his own private practice in Sullivan. ...

BEDFORD ---- Joe E. Farmer, 75, of Bedford, passed away at 10:10 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2002 at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born Aug. 4, 1926 in Calloway County, Ky., he was the son of Marvin and Agnes Gertrude (Gooch) Farmer. He was a pipefitter for Indiana Gas Company for 36 years before retiring. He attended Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford. He was a member of Bowhunters; American Legion Gillen Post 33; he was a veteran of Army Air Corps in WW II...
