Quick work saves thousands of turkeys

SOLSBERRY ---- Quick work Friday afternoon by five area fire departments averted a real disaster at the Beech Creek Turkey Farm located near Solsberry. An estimated 300 turkeys perished in the 3 p.m. blaze, but Center Township Fire Chief Donnie Johnson said it could have been much worse. The 40 feet by 100 feet long building contained about 11,000 turkeys. Two adjacent buildings contained another 20,000 turkeys. The Jasonville Senior Citizen's Center is a busy place, offering a hot meal four times a week as well as a variety of activities for seniors. Meals are provided through Generations in Vincennes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Once a month, a meal is not provided on a Thursday.
