Marcus "Mark" Emery, 70, of Bloomfield passed away at 8:48 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2007 at his residence. Born Oct. 21, 1937 in Greene County, he was the son of Virgil and Ruth (Carnegie) Emery. A 1955 graduate of Scotland High School, he was retired from RCA/Thompson's Consumer Electronics in Bloomington as a fork lift driver. Samuel Ottis Noel. 47, Bloomington, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at his residence. Born June 5, 1960 at Linton, he was the son of Pastor Marion Noel and Oneta Luiza Crites Noel. He is survived by his parents; siblings, Mark Noel,Trudy (Jeff) Skidmore and Deborah (Dennis) Noel-Harshman.

I am a sapient with credits from at least five schools of higher learning. However, some of the most meaningful lessons I have learned came while I was attending "Knocksville College" or as some would say the "School of Hard Knocks." One of the most engaging books I have read is Robert Fulghum's book, "All I Ever Needed To Know I Learned In Kindergarten." The remainder of the book tasted like poi and smelled like maple leaves in November...

Within the last year the Greene County Humane Society has received a few calls related to feral pig sightings or unseen, but heard reports. While the Humane Society is not responsible for this type of matter it is our responsibility to inform the public that areas in Indiana do have wild pig populations...

After 23 years of employment at the Linton-Stockton High School, Patty Poe is calling it quits. Poe -- who has spent the last 14 years as the high school secretary -- was originally hired for another position at the school. She explained, "When I was hired in 1984 I was the in-school suspension lady and athletic director secretary."...

Carrie Lee Pilant, 84, of Lewis, passed away at 5:34 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Born June 7, 1947 in Clay County, she was the daughter of Otis and Leona (Snellenberger) Mullens. A 1942 graduate of Coalmont High Schools, she homemaker and a member of the Friendly Grove Baptist Church where she was active in the ladies missionary circle...

The afternoon activities of a 19-year-old Carlisle man, Joshua R. Patterson, kept several law enforcement officers busy Monday. The Greene County Sheriff's Department was contacted by a woman in Stafford Township, with a Route 1, Sandborn address -- Jessica McCombs -- who said she returned home and found that Patterson had broken into her residence. She said pictures in her room had been scattered around her bed...

Greene County property owners expecting to get a Homestead Tax Rebate check better make sure they don't owe any other taxes to the county. The commissioners passed an ordinance Tuesday morning which stipulates that any upcoming Homestead Tax rebates will be applied to county delinquent tax bills before the property owner will be issued a rebate check...
