Anita B. Morland, 89, of Mequon, WI formerly of Valparaiso, IN and Sheboygan, WI, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007. She was born Sept. 14, 1918 in Parlier, Calif. the daughter of Bruce C. and Nellie Hawthorne.

Although the Newberry Town Council recently passed an updated water ordinance, town residents will not be affected by its water rate increase until February of 2008. Town Council President Sandy Townsend explained, "We reviewed the ordinance in November and passed it in December...It's no large increase. I feel good about the increase. It's not something that someone is not going to be able to handle."...

At least 30 area artists are expected to exhibit their work at the 5th annual Greene County Art Show this Saturday. The show will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds east of Switz City on State Road 54. Organizer Cheryl Helms of Artists in Residence said the artists are excited about the show and most who are exhibiting are expected to be present to talk to the public for most of the day...

Some Eastern Greene Elementary School fourth graders recently collected food items and distributed them to a local food pantry just in time for the holiday season. "This year the entire fourth grade is participating in an Indiana Learn and Serve project. They are working with the local food pantry, Operation Outreach, to provide canned food items and service to the community," Kim Hill, EG character education teacher, explained...

An effort to raise community awareness, and increase prevention of sexual assault and rape in Greene County, plus improve the response given to local victims, is off the ground following a planning meeting Tuesday. Middle Way House, in cooperation with the Greene County Foundation, was recently awarded a $7,000 community readiness grant from the CARE Initiative administered through Purdue University. CARE stands for the Communities Against Rape Initiative...
