Summer camps held at Bloomfield high school this week, were canceled on Wednesday due to a power outage at the school. Camps will resume on Thursday at normal times, permitting power is restored. The basketball shoot-out scheduled for Saturday, June 7 will begin at 8 a.m. with the first game. The Linton Police Department investigated two different reports on Tuesday of a dog being left in a locked car in a parking lot. After the first report, when an officer arrived in the Wal-Mart lot, they located a small black dog in a parked car which belonged to a Jasonville resident. The car was locked. Welfare fraud, theft charges filed against county woman

Preliminary charges of welfare fraud and theft were filed this week in Greene Superior Court against Deborah J. Smith and according to a court official, a warrant for her arrest has been requested. Both charges are class D felonies. The complaint against Smith is that she defrauded the Social Security Administration (SSA) by failing to report to the SSA that her son was removed from her care and custody, which resulted in her receiving SSA benefits, as the representative payee for her son, totaling $1,726 that she was not entitled to.. ...

State of emergency declared in Bloomfield after storm; clean up underway

A state of emergency was declared in the town of Bloomfield on Wednesday morning following a volent storm that disrupted power and downed numerous trees in the central Greene County community. Greene County Board of Commissioners President Bart Beard made the emergency declaration about 8:30 a.m. after consulting with Greene County Emergency Management Director Roger Axe. "It's a mess," Axe said speaking of what he found when he first walked outside his home on Franklin Street.
