Husbands, make your wives happy! To the Editor: One of my coffee mates complained that my letters are too boring. He suggested that I write more controversial letters, so they can discuss them fully. I asked them to suggest a topic that would meet their standard. It was suggested that I write about the duties and responsibilities of a wife around the home. So, here goes...

Is sign language OK for a 3 year old?

Reader asks: I have a 3-year-old grand-daughter and she is deaf in one ear. Her speech is delayed and I was wondering if you think sign language would be a good idea. And if so how do we get started? -- Submitted by Sharon of Bloomfield My reply: There is a lot of information I would like to know before replying, such as family history for deafness or hearing loss, is her loss congenital, is it conductive or nerve loss, what is the prognosis for future loss in other ear, etc … but here goes...

Moore sentenced to 11 months in county jail

Levi K. Moore was sentenced last week to 11 months in the Greene County Jail after his conviction on a charge of battery resulting in bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor. A six-member jury found Moore guilty on June 5 in Greene Superior Court. Moore's attorney had requested he be allowed to remain free on bond until sentencing, but Judge David Holt denied the request and remanded Moore to the Greene County Jail...

LPD issues 140 citations during 'Click It or Ticket' campaign

The Linton Police Department reports 140 citations were issued during the recent "Click It or Ticket" seatbelt enforcement mobilization. Of the 140 tickets written by the LPD, 132 were seatbelt violations and eight were child restraint violations. LPD Chief Troy Jerrell said although Indiana has a good record for seatbelt usage, it is still disturbing that some individuals refuse to buckle up...

The water crisis, which plagued Jasonville since June 7, officially ended Sunday -- eight days after the town's water supply was disrupted by Eel River flood waters that washed away the main water line.
