All three of Bloomfield youth football teams were eliminated from the Quad County tournament, bringing a close to their 2008 season. The 5-6 grade had the first game of the tournament in the west bracket on Saturday morning against Owen Valley Red. The Cardinals could not overcome the speed of the Patriots offense and fell 52-0. Louise Sanders, 87, of Lyons, passed away at 5:36 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at Bloomington Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1920 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Clayton) Farley. She and her husband James were the owners and operators of the former Western Auto Store in Worthington, where she was retired. Fern Marie (Hash) Corbin Bland, 95, of Matthews, NC, passed away at 5:26 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 2, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, NC. He was born Dec. 7, 1912, the daughter of David William and Dora Alice (Workman) Hash of Richland Township in Greene County...

Long lines of voters in two eastern Greene County precincts is causing a delay in the finalizing of results from the county clerk's office. There were still more than a dozen people in line at 8 p.m. in Center Township Precinct 2 with 1,127 registered voters, according to Voter Registration Office deputy Teressa Smith...

With 6,842 votes, Shelby Meurer (Democrat) pulled away from Republican Stuart Dowden's 6,312 to win, once again, the position of Greene County treasurer. Meurer served as the county's treasurer from 1989 through 1996 and says she is familiar with the office and its duties and knows she can be of good service to the public...

It's a second term for the Greene County surveyor. In a 6,900-5,963 vote, Republican Ira "Butch" Wright beat out his Democratic opponent, Timothy E. Jones, in Tuesday's election. After learning of his win, Wright expressed his relief. "I am a lot better than I was earlier today. I was nervous earlier today," Wright said...

Democrat challenger Kermit Holtsclaw defeated incumbent Republican Kathy Crouch in Tuesday's election to win the race for the District 1 Commissioner's seat Crouch has held for the past four years. When the results came in, a total of 7,182 Greene County voters had cast their ballot for Holtsclaw. Crouch received a total of 5,992 votes. Holtsclaw received 54.52 percent of the votes, and Crouch 45.48 percent...

In a 6,690-6,210 vote, Democrat Steve Lindsey beat out Republican Nathan Abrams in the commissioner District 2 race. After hearing of his victory, Lindsey told the Greene County Daily World he was "tired, worn-out, relieved and excited." He also expected a close race...
