There will be no trash pick-up in Linton today (Wednesday). The pick-up schedule will be at least one day late this week.

Linton Elks Lodge's initiation scheduled for today (Wednesday) has been postponed to Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Also, the Lodge will be closed all day today (Wednesday).

A snow emergency was declared in Greene County on Wednesday. Early in the day, traffic was at a near stand-still due to the second wave of a winter storm that socked in much of the county. Reports from the Greene County Sheriff's Department and reports to the Greene County Daily World showed that many areas of the county had between 8 and 12 inches of snow on the ground. The Greene County Courthouse was closed Wednesday and the county schools were also closed.

Oma B. Bovenschen, 94, of Carlisle, passed away at 3:02 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 28, 2009 at Sullivan Co. Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Newkirk Funeral Home in Dugger.

Ray Deckard, 91, of Sullivan, passed away at 9:33 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in Sullivan County Nov. 26, 1917 to Alonzo Deckard and Pearl Parks Deckard. Ray was a self employed farmer. Survivors include two sons, Keith Deckard and wife Wanda, Rusty Deckard and wife Sue, both of Sullivan; two daughters, Carolyn Forbes of Sullivan, and Nancy Hannum and husband Jock of Dugger; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Andrew, Bradley Deckard, Kathy Chapman, Susan Thrasher, Anita Zellers, Kenny Forbes, Erin Deckard, Christina Carpenter, Jamie Hannum, Desson Hannum; 16 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.. ...
