Friday, July 16 *Greene County 4-H Livestock Auction, 5:30 p.m. in the show arena at the fairgrounds. Miss Greene County Jennifer Nolting and her court will be auctioning baked goods throughout the evening. Saturday, July 17 *"Wings of Hope" benefit event will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Shawnee Airport. The event will feature a variety of children's games and activities, airplane rides, a photography show, clowns, live musical entertainment, a silent auction, plenty of good food as well as a symbolic bird release. The celebration, sponsored by the Greene County Alliance for Networking and Growth, will honor two boys, best friends who tragically died last year. The two boys -- 11-year-old Josh Merritt and 10-year-old Nicholas Decker -- suffered burns over more than 90 percent of their bodies on April 18, 2009 in an accident involving gasoline that was put on a smoldering fire pit in small community of Scotland. Nick passed away May 29 2009 and his best friend, Josh, died June 24, 2009. Money raised with help set up a scholarship fund in memory of the two boys and another account to assist with athletic or extracurricular expenses for needy local children. *Greene County Fair Demolition Derby, 7:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds, near Switz City. Admission is $9 a person.
