Greene County Smoking Cessation and Prevention Coordinator Nancy Cummings would love for all five of the county school districts to have tobacco-free campuses. So far, Linton-Stockton and Eastern Greene school districts have adopted a comprehensive policy that bans the use of tobacco products on school grounds 24 hours a day, year-round...

Sue McDonald (Democrat) and Matt Baker (Republican) have plans for streamlining the auditor's office. The two will face each other in Tuesday's election. McDonald says her office -- she is a deputy in the auditor's office -- is currently bringing the plat mapping up to date and also in the process of bringing all properties up to date and that they will be kept up to date. She added that there is also a terminal in the auditor's office for the surveyors...

A three-way contest for Jackson Township between Penny Jacob, Duane Long and Martha Miller is the sole competition for an Eastern Greene school board seat this year. Joel Matthew "Matt" Mathis, 58, of Ellettsville, died Friday morning at Bloomington Hospital. Born Sept. 18, 1952 in Bloomington, he was the son of John and Vera (McArtor) Mathis. He was disabled, but had formerly worked at General Electric in Bloomington. He loved to deer hunt and build racing cars, especially anything Mopar. He was a member of the American Legion Post 18...

Patricia Evans, age 81 of Linton, died at 2:50 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, at Bloomington Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton and will be posted at www.welchcornett.com Saturday afternoon.
