Preparing the field for planting

Indiana is in the middle of one of the wettest spring seasons ever, and the forecast for the rest of the month is for above normal moisture. As a result, planting is more than two weeks behind the average pace. However, on Thursday evening this Greene County farmer near the Mt. Saturday, May 14 * Hobbieville Christian Church will host a gospel sing starting at 6 p.m. The featured group will be Evening Light Gospel Singers. They will sing bluegrass. Food will also be available. * The annual Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce Communty-Wide Yard Sale will be conducted. Maps will be available starting at 7 a.m. on the south side of the square at the Chamber booth. * Wyatt LeGrand (www.legrandartstudio.com) will teach Plein Air painting in Bloomfield. Meet at the Bloomfield Public Library at 1 p.m. Art supplies are provided. The goal is to create a visual history of Bloomfield. There is no cost, but class size is limited, so register at 384-4125. * The Lyons Assembly of God Church, 610 West Prairie St., will host a soup and hot dog supper and a gospel sing fundraiser from 4-8 p.m. Featured groups are Heaven's Jubilee, Master's Bouquet, For His Glory, West and Friends, Family of God Singers, and others. There will be no charge, though donations will be accepted. * The Jasonville Senior Citizen's Center will host its perennial flower sale from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other items will be for sale as well. In case of rain, the sale will be moved inside the center.

Bloomfield Police Department is investigating an attempted abduction of a 9-year-old girl that was reported on Thursday. Greene County Sheriff Terry Pierce said his department took the call from a resident on North Franklin Street in Bloomfield and referred it to the BPD. Town Marshal Ken Tharp said the incident happened in the little girl's yard about 3:30 p.m.
