Theft of guns under investigation by ISP

OWENSBURG ---- Indiana State Police are investigating the theft of three guns from a vacant residence near Owesnburg. ISP Trooper Richard J. Klun told the Greene County Daily World that he met with homeowner Brad Johnson at his residence at 6853 E. National Weather Service issues frost advisory for early Sunday

The National Weather Service at Indianapolis has issued a 'frost advisory' for early Sunday. The advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Low temperatures are expected to drop into the 32 to 36 degree range and combined with clear skies and diminishing winds should allow for areas of frost development, according to a NWS news advisory issued on Saturday afternoon...

Bartlett named Bloomfield Apple Festival queen

Liza Bartlett, the 2011 Bloomfield Apple Festival queen, said she wants to become a general surgeon so she can take her skills to the mission field. Bartlett, a Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School junior and daughter of Greg and Teresa Bartlett, says she plans to attend the University of Evansville after high school to major in biochemistry. Then, she wants to attend medical school to be a general surgeon. "I want to take those skills to the mission field to help those who have been denied the care they deserve," Bartlett told the audience at the queen contest Saturday night in the Bloomfield school cafeteria. She is active in the First Christian Church, where she plays piano. During the question-and-answer portion of the competition, Bartlett said if she could go anywhere in the world she would go Versailles, France. "I have been interested in French culture since seeing a movie about Marie Antoinette ... even though that is a weird example," Bartlett said with a laugh. "The (French) language is beautiful." She noted she is currently taking French classes. Following the crowning by 2010 queen Brandi Blakley, Bartlett said she was very happy and ecstatic. "I am blessed to have a great, supportive family and to have this opportunity thanks to (competition sponsor) the Delta Theta Tau Sorority," Bartlett said. "I also want to thank all of the other girls for being so supportive of me. They were all beautiful tonight." Bartlett was sponsored by Bloomfield 1st Security Insurance, John Mensch agent. Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School senior Jordan Gillenwater, daughter of Jeanne Gee and Brad Gillenwater, was first runner-up. She was sponsored by Judy Wise and Longaberger Company. Bloomfield senior Carrie Mitchell, daughter of Steve and Becky Mitchell, was second runner-up. She was sponsored by Bloomfield Dairy Queen. Bloomfield senior Britney Pinnick, daughter of Cheryl Rose and Scott Pinnick was named Miss Congeniality. All the girls vying for the crown and the judges vote for Miss Congeniality. It is based on personality, and ability to get along with the other competitors. Master of Ceremonies, Joni Miller, was proud of the group of girls she worked with this year. "I wish we could crown four queens ... I met with these girls a week ago, and I could tell they were all great girls. They are all very active in their schools," Miller said.

UPDATED, final: Eastern Greene spoils Bulldog homecoming

DUGGER - Eastern Greene defeated host Union 26-12 in a Southwest Seven Conference football game here Saturday. It was homecoming for the Bulldogs. It was the first time EGHS has won at Dugger (1-6). This story will be updated.
