First baby of 2012 arrives
(Local News ~ 01/06/12)
An unexpected, early arrival, little Boone William Roberts has his tuxedo already. Still, he showed up just a bit late for the New Year's parties. The newborn, Greene County General Hospital's first baby of 2012, arrived at 10:26 a.m. on Wednesday, 10 days ahead of schedule. His proud mom, D'Lee Bowers, 19, only expected to make a doctor's visit Monday. Instead, her physician Krista Cox informed she was ready for him to induce labor. Cox's husband Brian would ultimately perform the necessary C-section. "She went in for the check-up and the doctor told her she was dilated," said the baby's proud father William Roberts, 18. "She was only at 38 weeks, but she measured at 42 weeks, so they told us to be there at 8 a.m (Tuesday)." Labor ultimately was induced around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, and little Boone Roberts arrived by C-section at 10:26 a.m. He was six pounds, five ounces and 19 inches long. Welcoming the newborn to the world were his proud grandparents James and Lorie Bowers and Valerie and William Roberts, both of Linton. Boone also has a maternal uncle and aunt Levi and Sarah Bowers, and two cousins Canaan and Sidney, along with a paternal aunt, Harli Roberts. "We've had a lot of company," his proud mom said, laughing as she remembered the steady steam of family and friends who came to coo, ooh and aah over the newborn child. Labor was challenging for her first child, Bowers said. Still, her mom Lorie, who was with her for nearly all of the delivery, suggested she came through it with flying colors. "She had it pretty rough," Lorie Bowers said. "But the end results were wonderful. ... She'll be a good mom." The infant's dad concurred. "It was pretty interesting," he said. "Something I wouldn't trade for the world." Snoozing soundly in an onesie which emulates the best festive finery, a gift from certified nursing assistant Carla Decker and the staff, little Boone seemed blissfully unaware of the celebration surrounding him Thursday evening. Despite his tuxedo, the newborn's far from a party animal, his mommy said. "He's perfect," she said. "He sleeps a lot, and he doesn't cry much at all." His proud grandma Lorie concurred. "I think we'll keep him around," she said, laughing.
