Jesse N. Thomas, 90, of Linton, passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Linton Nursing and Rehab in Linton.
He was born in Linton on July 3, 1921, the son of Wayne and Lillie (Hollingsworth) Thomas.
He was an United States Navy veteran of WWII. Jesse retired from the Hawthorn Coal Mine, Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, BPO Elks Lodge 866, and the American Legion Post 22, all of Linton. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He is survived by his daughters, Dedra (Gerald) Carr of Linton and Debbie (Ted) Riggins of Odon, a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Thomas-Sweeney of Vincennes, a sister, Wilhelmina Lehman of Linton, seven grandchildren, Chris (Nicky) Carr, Derek (Kara) Thomas, Danielle (Andy) Vieck, David (Jennie) Carr, Sage Riggins, Matthew (Beth) Riggins, and Beth Ann Riggins, nine great-grandchildren, D'Lee Vieck, Alexis Vieck, Emma Carr, Keagan Thomas, Lily Carr, Keanna Thomas, Alexcis Riggins, Robert Riggins, and Bryce Riggins, and a great-grandson due in June to David and Jennie Carr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Thomas on Oct. 10, 2011, son, Dan Thomas, and two brothers, Muriel and Wendell "Doc" Thomas.
Funeral service will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 12 with the Revs. Kenneth Adams and David Tyra officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton with military graveside rites conducted by the Linton American Legion Post 22 of Linton.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
