Trent Carpenter of Worthington competed at the Christmas Lake Golf Course Wednesday in Santa Claus as part of the MD Tour. In the boys 15-16 division, which is rated par 72 at 6,243 yards, Myers shot a 92. He finished 30th.

Man faces charge after rifle bullet goes through neighbor's house

Shakamak raises elementary lunch prices by a quarter

By Jo Chiparo Staff Writer The Metropolitan School District of Shakamak's Board of School Trustees voted on several items preparing for the 2012-2013 school year. Following a review of regulation changes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) the board raised the lunch prices of elementary students from $1.75 to $2. Lunch prices for junior and senior high students will remain the same at $2. After hearing bids from IBC Sales (Hostess) for bread and Prairie Farms for milk, the board tabled those items until bids are discussed with Jayne Collins. Textbook fees remain the same as last year and will be set as follows: * Kindergarten - $45 per pupil plus a $5 art fee, totalling $50. * Grades 1-6 - $65 per pupil plus a $5 art fee and a $5 agenda fee, totalling $75. * Grades 7-8 - $75 plus a $5 agenda book fee and other fees that apply. * Grades 9-12 will see their textbook fees vary according to individual schedules students take. The board also voted to re-employ and hire multiple personnel for the 2012-2013 school year: Trustees voted to re-employ classified permanent employees, part-time instructional assistants, food service workers, bus drivers, bus aides and custodians. The board also approved hiring Nancy Edwards for one period of German 3 and one period of French 3. Additionally, they approved hiring Robbie McClanahan for three periods of secondary art. The board also approved extracurriclar activity sponsors for sports for the 2012-2013 school year. Additionally, they approved hiring Steven McNabb as junior high study hall instructional assistant and Kara Austin as high school resource room instructional assistant. Reappointments for the 2012-2013 fiscal year included: * Corporation Treasurer Pamela Jerrells * Corporation Payroll Officer and Deputy Treasurer Brenda Culler. * Corporation Secretary and Data Coordinator Vicki Griffith. * Corporation Attorney John Rowe and the Rowe Law Firm LLC. * Extracurricular Activity Building Treasurer for the Junior-Senior High School Christina Letsinger. * Cafeteria Treasurer Jayne Collins. * Athletics and Elementary, Junior-Senior High School and Cafeteria Deputy Treasurer Pamela Burger. * Elementary Building Treasurer Monica Stevens. The board approved Superintendent Mike Mogan to represent the Shakamak Metropolitan School District as a member of the the following organizations: * Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative Board of Superintendents. * Twin Rivers Career and Technical Education Board of Directors. * Greene Educational Services Board of Directors Southern Indiana Education Center (SIEC) Executive Board and the Educational Service Center Risk Funding Trust (ESCRFT) Executive Board, which is part of the school's liability trust consortium. Mogan reported another computer lab is being worked on at the school. Additionally, workers from Carlisle's Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) will be helping at the school the last two weeks of July. Further, Mogan has begun working on the 2013 budget. In other business, Attorney Cortney Givens informed the board that they can request a physical examination at any time for school bus drivers. The board also approved the NEOLA Bylaws and Guidelines. Neola is a company which helps school boards and corporations develop bylaws. that had been submitted to the board at the June meeting.
