Bessie Cooksey, 99, of Worthington, passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at Plainfield Health Care Center. She was born Sept. 22, 1913 to Charles Monroe and Zora Dell (Clark) Sinders in Owen County. She was also raised in Owen County. Bessie spent her early days near Coal City, she was a homemaker and spent many years working with her husband, as managers of Cooksey's Cities Service in Worthington. She was a charter member of Worthington Church of Christ. She was also a member of Hi Neighbors Club and had a favorite hobby of quilting. Bessie is survived by one daughter, Wanda June Vandeventer, Plainfield; son-in-law, Dr. Larry Vandeventer; two granddaughters, Kristi (Keith) Miedema, Fairfield, Ohio and Sharla (Todd) Carter, Floyd Knobs, Ind.; two great-granddaughters, Audrey and Tess Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of over 50 years, Alva W. Cooksey; three brothers, Herman, Rex and Chester Sinders. Funeral service will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday until time of service.
