Five employees at Crane Army Ammunition Activity on the NSA Crane base were injured in an explosion that took place in the pyrotechnics facility on Thursday evening. The incident took place about 5:40 p.m. during routine clean-up operations, according to CAAA spokesman Thomas Peske, Jr. "The chemicals are the ones we use in the production of pyrotechnic candles (for mortars). I know there was a radio report stating it involved white phosphorous production, but it happened at our Pyro facility with the chemicals used in the creation of those rounds," Peske told the Greene County Daily World..
