UPDATED: Linton's Park Board adds trees to Humphreys Park (Local News ~ 09/26/13)
The Linton Park Board added new trees and equipment to Humphreys Park on Thursday. Project coordinator and Park Board member John Cotter said trees at the park hadn't been replenished at the rate they should have been in the past. He said the board chose a variety of trees to offer quick shade or long lives as well as different colors of fall leaves and spring blossoms. Cotter said there are three different types of maple trees, pine oak trees, linden trees and zellcova trees. "We hope people enjoy them," Cotter said. Park Boark president Richard Kaiser said the project will help sustain the park for the future. "We realize a lot of us won't get a lot of benefit but our children and grandchildren will," Kaiser said. The board will also offer the option to adopt the new trees either as a group or in memory of someone. The adoption will be denoted with a plaque on the tree. Cotter said the adoption program is set to take off at the beginning of next year. Anyone interested in adopting a tree can contact board member Jeannette Evans at (812) 847-7345. -
