A couple of weeks ago, someone representing themselves as a local law enforcement officer called a Bloomfield resident in an attempt to get the resident's debit card information. The caller identified himself as "Deputy Calhoun of the Greene County Sheriff's Department." The resident did not fall for the scam and called the sheriff's department to report the incident...

Greene County Commissioners close out 2014 with Flood Plain ordinance approval

BLOOMFIELD -- The Greene County Commissioners closed out their 2014 docket with the approval of the new Flood Plain Management Plan Ordinance. The ordinance, which is required for Greene County residents to purchase National Flood Insurance Policies, is to promote the public health, safety and general welfare and to minimize public and private losses due to flood conditions in specific areas by provisions designed to restrict or prohibit uses which are dangerous to health, safety and property due to water or erosion hazards, which result in damaging increases in erosion or in flood heights or velocities; require that uses vulnerable to floods, including facilities which serve such uses, be protected against flood damage in the time of initial construction; control the alteration of natural floodplains, stream channels and natural protective barriers which are involved in the accommodations of flood waters; control filling, grading, dredging and other development which may increase erosion or flood damage; prevent or regulate the construction of flood barriers which will unnaturally divert flood waters or which may increase flood hazards to other lands and to make federal flood insurance available to structures and their contents in the county by fulfilling the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program.. ...
