The Greene County Sheriff's Department responded to 74 calls and incidents from Friday, April 17 through Sunday, April 19, including eight accidents resulting in property damage, two accidents resulting in personal injury, two alarms, five complaints concerning an animal, three assist to other departments, two assist to the public, one case of battery, two burglary cases, three child custody issues, one civil dispute, four domestic disputes, two fights in progress, one report of harassment, one probation violation, one property damage case, five reckless drivers, two road hazards, four reports of suspicious activity, three thefts, one threat, 10 traffic stops, two reports of trespassing, and two welfare checks.. ...

The Linton Police Department responded to 52 calls and incidents from Friday, April 17 through Sunday, April 19, including seven assists to the public, one alarm, four title checks, one warrant served, six thefts, three assists to other departments, two complaints concerning a juvenile, six reports of suspicious activity, three accidents resulting in property damage, one fraud investigation, three reckless drivers, one case of criminal mischief, two calls for information, one unruly subject, one threat, one domestic dispute, three traffic stops, two complaints concerning noise, one complaint concerning an animal, and one alcohol offense.. ...

Gary Wray "Pretzel" Dixon, 64, of Bloomington, died at 2:50 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. Born January 3, 1951 in Indianapolis, he was the son of James L. and Dora Belle (Wray) Dixon. He married Sharon Kay Mills on October 22, 1993 and she survives. He was a member of the First Christian Church and had worked as a contract mail carrier for Sam Reese Trucking in Bloomington for over 30 years, and loved Harley Davidson motorcycles...

Friday, April 17 - Jimmy Lee jr. Lawson, 47, Bloomington, was arrested on a warrant issued for bond revocation. Greene County Sheriff's Jail Officer Darren McDonald was the arresting officer. Carol Utterback Pershing, 84, of Greenwood, April 18, 2015. She was born September 14, 1930, in Linton, to the late William E. and Cornelia (Mills) Utterback. Carrol married to Marion Ray Pershing on October 23, 1949 in Linton. Carol was employed for over 20 years at McDonalds. She was a past matron of Southport Chapter No. 442 Order of Eastern Star and a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Linton...

The Linton Church League Softball Association is now taking teams for this year's Summer Softball League. Games will be on weeknights. Each team will play one game per week and we will have a tourney at the end of the season Entry deadline is Sunday, May 17. The league will start during the first week of June...

Saturday was another beautiful racing day at Lyons Raceway Park with some cars going over 150 mph down the 1/8 mile strip. Many cars go too fast to rely on brakes alone. After crossing the finish line, they release the nylon parachute (sometimes multiple chutes) which spring out the back of the cars with a loud "pop" as they billow to catch the air and slow the cars down before they reach the catch net at the end of the track...

Shakamak scored in all but two innings as the Lakers defeated host Owen Valley 9-4 in a non-conference high school baseball game Saturday. The Lakers tallied 13 hits as Braden Scott was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Dylan Collins also had three hits. Tanner Yeryar went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored...

With a short-handed roster due to a conflict with a band concert, the Linton-Stockton varsity softball team defeated host Mitchell 10-3 in a high school game Friday. Shelsie Meurer scattered six hits to pick up the complete-game victory. She allowed one walk and struck out six as she threw 65 strikeouts out of 92 pitches...

Linton-Stockton won one of two softball game at the junior varsity invitational, hosted by Terre Haute South Saturday. The Lady Miners fell to Avon 10-4, but defeated Jasper 6-2. Shelsie Meurer pitched the first four innings and got the win against Jasper. Jaelyn Walker pitched the final three innings...

The White River Valley vs. Clay City softball game, scheduled for today, has been postponed. No makeup date has yet been announced.

In a special session of the Linton City Council on Monday, two bids were accepted, one from Anderson Construction and the other from USA Construction for the Linton Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Project. A few months prior, a grant was awarded to the City of Linton in the amount of $300,000 to complete a rehabilitation of 13 houses...

Linton-Stockton and Bloomfield were scheduled to compete in a golf match at the Sullivan Elks Club Monday, but it was postponed.

Approximately one mile of Warren Road will be closed Wednesday for culvert replacement. According to Greene County Highway Supervisor Brent Dyer, Warren Road will be closed between State Road 54 and Cold Springs Road from 8 a.m. until about 4 p.m. "We're going to let the school buses through," said Dyer, "then we're going to close the road until we get the work done."...

Evan Sipes led the Miners with an 18-hole total of 83. Zach Hall and Dane Kanen both shot 90, Jacob Gregory had a 94 and Levi Jerrells finished with a 100 as they had a team total of 357, the same as Washington Catholic...

Steps were taken at Monday night's Linton-Stockton Board of School Trustees meeting to move forward with 1:1 technology for select grade levels beginning with the 2015-16 school year. The 1:1 technology will begin with grades three and six next school year, adding grades nine through 12 during the 2016-17 school year. All grade levels will be utilizing 1:1 technology by the 2017-18 school year.....
