Arson suspected in Bear Run Mine fire

Union Fire Protection Territory responded to a fully-engulfed abandoned house on Bear Run Mine property early Wednesday morning, with fire officials believing arson was likely to blame. "Someone from the coal mine thought they saw headlights (around 5 a.m.) from where that property was, and, about 5:30, we were called for a fire," UFPT Assistant Chief David Heaton said. SR 358 Bridge near Edwardsport to close for rehab

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a bridge closure on State Road 358 near Edwardsport beginning on or around July 21. Weather permitting, contractors will be on site to perform a complete rehabilitation of the pavement on the bridge. Workers will use hydrodemolition, a method in which super pressurized water jets are used to break up failing areas of pavement.
