INDOT: Beware of flooding this weekend

While many were looking forward to improved conditions this weekend on account of higher temperatures, INDOT is warning motorists that the combination of rising temperatures and a forecast for rain could make flooding the next obstacle for drivers. INDOT says that winter weather events over the last two weeks, including Friday's Winter storm and additional inches of snow from earlier this week, could melt and contribute to flooding in Southwestern Indiana as temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-50s this weekend. ...

Greene County General Hospital Board to support Opioid Safety Program

The GCGH Board has announced its support of an opioid safety program designed to improve the safe use of opioid medications by patients in Greene County. According to information obtained by the Board from the American Hospital Association’s “Stem the Tide” resource toolkit, more than 33,000 people died from an opioid-related overdose in 2015, more than 90 people per day or four people every hour.

Unsafe conditions force Worthington family from their home

A Worthington woman and her three children are being forced to leave their home after electricians discovered a serious fire hazard. Amanda Lovell lives in Worthington by the White River Co-Op, from whom the family rents their home. When all the outlets in her living-room stopped working, she contacted the co-op, who sent electricians from Washington to work on the issue. Lovell was allegedly told that the electrical hookup was “all messed up and could cause a fire at any time.”...

Arnold G. Engle, age 97, of Linton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Linton Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born in Ft. Wayne on December 20, 1920, the son of Charles L. and Marie (Holtzhauer) Engle. After graduating from Elmhurst High School and General Electric Apprentice School, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, stationed at Pensacola, Fla. He began his employment with General Electric in Ft. Wayne, and in 1952 was transferred to the new G.E. facility in Linton...

Linton-Stockton third-grader Julie Chen named Spelling Bee Champ

The top speller from each classroom at Linton-Stockton Elementary School competed Wednesday evening in the annual LSES Spelling Bee. Each student received a certificate and medal for competing, and the winner and runner-up received additional certificates and a trophy as well as a one-year online subscription to Britannica Online for Kids from the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
