Our Pet of the Week this week is Gaelynn. Gaelynn is one-year-old, spayed, microchipped and current on shots. The staff at the Greene County Humane Society said Gaelynn’s mom was adopted just last week, and Gaelynn is feeling lonely as a result. They said she is very playful and willing to please, once she gets over an initial shyness to new people. The fee to adopt Gaelynn is $125. A total of 209,809 babies were born to women aged 15–19 years in 2016, for a birth rate of 20.3 per 1,000 women in this age group. This was another record low for U.S. teens and a decline of 61.8 births per 1,000 women in this age group from 1991. According to a press release from Pace Community Action Agency, evidence suggests the reason for the decline as more teens are abstaining from sexual activity and more sexually active teens are using a birth control method. ...

Nurses at Greene County General Hospital are being honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Employees outside of nursing staff are also being honored with the PETAL Award for exceptional service...

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to 125 incidents and calls for service from May 27 to June 1, including three abandoned vehicles, seven property damage accidents, eight personal injury accidents, seven alarms, six animal complaints, three assists to other departments, five assists to the public, one burglary, three civil disputes, three criminal mischief, seven domestic dispute, four drug investigations, three EMS, two juvenile complaints, two noise complaints, three reckless drivers, 10 road hazards, one sex offense, one shooting complaint, one attempted suicide, eight suspicious, four theft, one threat, two title checks, 13 traffic stops, nine transports, one trash, three trespass, one warrant service and three welfare checks.. ...

A press release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department states an individual traveling on State Road 45 by the Pinewood Gas Station lost control of his vehicle, causing it to enter the front of the convenience store at 8:05 a.m.
