Officials clear the air at Eastern Greene

State and county officials have given the all-clear for Eastern Greene schools to re-open on Monday, Aug. 26 after an incident on Thursday, Aug. 22 prompted school administration to close Eastern Greene Schools on Friday. According to a release issued by the Center-Jackson Fire Territory, the incident started when two students and three staff members at Eastern Greene Middle School began complaining of upper respiratory problems while being in the middle school library just before the end of the school day.. ...

James Joseph (Joe) Smith, 70, of Dugger, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at his residence. Joe was born in Sullivan County on August 23, 1949, the son of James Albert Smith and Ruth Beatrice (Hubble) Smith Ashcraft. He was a retired coal miner after 42 years and a member of the United Mine Workers Local 1410.
