Local woman jailed for child neglect

A Greene County woman faces a charge of neglecting a dependent resulting in bodily injury, a Class 5 Felony. According to a probable cause document filed in Greene Superior court, a warrant was issued for Stephanie Catt, 27, of Lyons on Nov. 18. The probable cause alleges that the charge was filed against Catt as a result of a physician’s determination that the child may not have been suffering from “failure to thrive,” a condition where a child fails to develop and grow at a normal rate, but may have been the victim of “failure to feed.”. ...

Local man seeking grant to repair angel statue in Humphreys Park

Greene County resident John Stewart is on a mission to restore the angel statue that has been sitting in Humphreys Park since the 1950s. The statue, which was originally hand-carved out of limestone by Stewart’s grandfather, Willard R. Stewart, has taken its fair share of weathering and erosion over the decades. Now, with her wings missing and many pieces of her face and body chipped off, Stewart is hoping to restore her to her original glory...

Linton’s Carnegie to close temporarily

On Friday, the Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center announced that the building will be closed temporarily, citing an increase in COVID-19 cases in Greene County. The center plans on reevaluating its decision to close on Jan. 14 of next year. Spokespersons for the Carnegie say the facility will remain available to book for private events, upcoming classes and virtual events, encouraging members of the public who wish to use the space to contact the organization...

Former correctional officer turns self in to authorities

Wanted on three felony counts for suspected drug trafficking, a former Putnamville correctional officer turned himself in Tuesday morning. Micah White, 30, Linton, turned himself in to Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Helmer. White was formally charged in Putnam Superior Court last week with Level 5 felony trafficking with an inmate, Level 5 felony conspiracy to commit trafficking with an inmate and Level 6 felony official misconduct...
