The family of Loyd “Russell” Cantrell, Jr. mourns his passing. Born March 15, 1946 to Loyd Cantrell, Sr. and Gladys (Wampler) Cantrell. Entered eternal rest August 3, 2021 at home in Bloomfield. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Barbara (Spears) Cantrell; sons, Russell "Rusty" (Jeannie) Cantrell and Gregory ‘Greg’ Cantrell; step-grandchildren, Brianna, Lexi and Tyler Head; sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Hamm, Nancy Daniels and Mary Uland-Smith; grandchildren, Kyle (Kylie) Cantrell and Brandon (Taryn) Cantrell; great-granddaughters, Kynlee Renae, Olive Kate and Kyndall Lou Cantrell; and many nieces and nephews.. ...

Hudson leads a young Eastern Greene golf team

Eastern Greene golf coach Nathan Martindale has the nice benefit of his team keeps growing in numbers. “That’s been kind of the calling card here,” Martindale said. “I think four years ago I think we had two. That’s a good sign that you’ve got a lot of girls who are interested in learning the game. So now it’s a matter of getting them out of the course and working with them to learn the game.”...

Linton golfers in a good spot for 2021

Entering her third season, Linton girls golf coach Jessica Taylor is ready to see how the program has improved from last season that was slightly impacted by COVID-19. “I’m hoping we’ll have a really good season this year because we have a lot of strong golfers,” Taylor said. “I’m hoping we can advance out of sectional because we did just a couple years ago and we are just as good this year. Then again, golf is a hard game so you never know.”...

T-Birds see reasons for optimism and potential turnaround

CINCINATTI - Walking around the Eastern Greene sideline last season one observation could be made right away. Half the team had not had their growth spurt but the T-Birds were having to slug it out with bigger, faster and more experience teams. Coach Roy Bruce is entering his third season and is ready to see how those young players matured since last season. He appreciates to finally get a full offseason with his players as COVID impacted last summer...
