He was a life-long resident of Linton and born on July 20, 1921, to Henry and Maude (Raymer) Ballard.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, who served during World War II. He later became an accountant and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Linton First Baptist Church and the American Legion Post No. 22. He was an avid golfer and won the Greene County Tournament in both 1951 and 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Rose M. Ballard, whom he married July 26, 1946; two sons, Mark A. (Louise) Ballard MD of Cave Creek AZ, and David E. Ballard of Titusville, FL; two grandchildren, Lindsey and April Ballard; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Linton First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. David Tyra officiating. Military honors will be given immediately following the funeral ceremony at the church.
Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery at a later date following cremation.
Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday.
