Linton teen faces new theft charge

Thursday, August 9, 2007

A Linton teen finds himself behind bars after being arrested for theft less than 24 hours after being released from jail on a previous theft and burglary charge.

Tyler Cliver, 17, was arrested at 12:15 a.m. on Thursday by Linton Police Department Patrolman Jayson Smith. At 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Cliver had been released from Greene County jail.

On Thursday, Cliver -- who's been waived to adult court on this case as well as on his previous theft and burglary case -- and a male juvenile were observed getting into a truck on Northeast A Street, according to a news release from the Linton Police Department. The owner of the truck was notified by a neighbor who had observed one of the subjects entering the driver's side of the truck. The owner of the truck spotted the subjects and followed them to the bowling alley and called the police department.

During an interview with police, according to the probable cause affidavit, Cliver confessed to the crime and was placed under arrest.

The city of Linton has seen several burglaries and attempted burglaries in the past few weeks; however, LPD Chief Troy Jerrell said Cliver was incarcerated in the Greene County jail when those crimes took place.
