Carl R. Maybaugh, 92, of Linton passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Greene County General Hospital.
Born September 16, 1914, in Clay County, he was the son of Charles and Chessie (Winikie) Maybaugh.
A U.S.Army veteran of World War II, he received four Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart medal. He worked at the Hawthorne Mine with Peabody Coal Co. for 45 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; he was a member of the Linton BPO Elks No. 866, American Legion Post No. 22, Greene Co. Shrine Club, Zorah Shrine Valley of Terre Haute, VFW Clay City Post No. 6606, UMWA local and Masonic Lodge No. 560 F &AM.
Survivors include his wife, Nerva H. (Hamilton) Maybaugh, whom he married on Dec.17, 1973; one son, Jon R. Sylvia Maybaugh of Savannah, GA; one daughter, June Hastings of Alpharetta, GA; three grandchildren, Carrie Kellogg, Julie Allard and Jill Howgate; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Horn, Carson and Holden Howgate; one sister; Patty Haseman of Clay City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy and George 'Buck' Maybaugh; and one sister, Irene Duncan.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with Rev. Doug Witt officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton with full military graveside rites.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9-10:30 a.m. on Thursday. There will be a Masonic Memorial Service conducted Wednesday at 7 p.m.
