Jessie M. Whaley, 91, Route 2, Solsberry passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born Oct. 13, 1915 in Greene County, he was the daughter of Harley and Ara Stephen Johnson.
She graduated from Solsberry High School in 1932, and also earned her B.S. degree from Central Normal College and M.A. degree from Indiana University. She retired as school teacher with 45 years experience -- with teaching assignments at Kirksville, Sandborn, Bodwell, Cincinnati, Hobbieville, Combs, Owensburg and Eastern Greene schools. She was a member of the Cincinnati Christian Church.
Survivors include: a daughter, Luanna Carmichael of Solsberry; grandson and wife, Scott Carmichael and Ellen Martin of Bloomington; one great-granddaughter, Emmie Carmichael of Bloomington; one sister and husband, Joan and Don Bryant of Solsberry; one brother-in-law and wife, Orval and Rebecca Whaley of Stanford; two sisters-in-law, Edna French of Bloomington and Martha Johnson of Solsberry; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Otis Whaley; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Johnson; and one son-in-law, Donnie Carmichael.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cincinnati Christian Church with The Rev. Henry Mann officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may call at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel in Bloomington from 4-8 p.m. today (Thursday) and one hour prior to service on Friday at the church.
