James Dail Gross, 63, Worthington, passed away April 1, 2007 at his home
He was born May 20, 1943 at Mayfield, Ky., the son of James Wright Gross and Verba Lurline (Perry) Gross.
He was first married to Bonnie Sue Ladyman on May 6, 1963 at Qulin, Mo. He later married Connie Lynn Thatcher on Dec. 26, 1986 at Coal City.
He graduated from Qulin High School in May 1962. He moved to the St. Louis area after graduation, working at REA Express until 1970 when he began work at Krey Packing Company. During the 12 years he lived in Arnold, Mo., he was an active member of the Jaycees, and served on the Arnold Police Personnel Board. He served as President of the Arnold Park Commission during the early 1970s. He relocated to Houston, Texas and began employment with Cahokia Flour Company before moving to Indiana in the late 1970s. Dail worked at Worthington Packing Company, Nice-Pac Company and Sunbeam before retiring in 1992. Dail had farmed for the past 30 years.
He is survived by his wife Connie Thatcher of Worthington; one daughter Gina Marmonti and husband Dean of Festus, Mo.; his mother Verba Gross of Mountain View, Mo.; his first wife Bonnie Sue Gross of Festus, Mo.; one stepson Darin Hostetter and wife Tricia of Terre Haute; two brothers John W. Gross and wife Carol of Qulin, Mo., and William P. Gross of Wentzville, Mo.; his father in law and mother in law Junior and Pauline Thatcher of Worthington, one brother in law, Larry Thatcher and wife Mona of Coal City; one sister in law Tracy Tarr and husband Rich of Bloomfield; three grandchildren Gavin Joseph Marmonti, Dominic James Marmonti and Gaige "Antonio" Marmonti, all of Festus, Mo.; his nieces and nephews, Michael Gross and wife, Michelle of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Madelyn Gross of Spring Lake, N.C.; Perry Gross of Wentzville, Mo.; Joseph James Gross of Springfield, Mo.; Ashley Gross of Mountain View, Mo.; Jacob Thatcherand wife Mandy, of Linton; Zack Tarr, Libby Tarr and Michelle Tarr, all of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Gross, one brother Joseph R. Gross, one sister in law Leota Gross; his paternal grandparents, Owen Smith Gross and Jennie Frances (Griffith) Gross; one step grandmother Opa Osburn Gross; his maternal grandparents John "Alec" Perry and Nellie Fayne (Martin) Perry.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Qulin City Cemetery in Qulin, Mo., with the Rev. J. R. Bruce officiating. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 11a.m. at Qulin City Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Mountain View, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Our Lady School in Festus, Mo., at 1599 St. Mary's Lane, Festus, Mo., 63028.
