Thomas J. Scecina, 89, of Valparaiso passed away April 8, 2007 at Porter Hospital.
He was born in Linton on April 9, 1917 and was a resident of Valparaiso since 1977 and formerly of Gary.
He retired from U.S. Steel Co. in 1979 after 43 years of service. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila, former member of St. Mark Catholic Church Glen Park, a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Ryder Council No.1033 Gary and a Forest Park Golf Course Men's Club Member from 1980-1992.
Survivors include two sons: Thomas G. (Margaret) Scecina of MA and James (Susanna) Scecina of Virginia; two daughters: Joan Serfaty of Valparaiso, and Mary Lynn (Michael) Mihelich of Riverside, Calif.; seven grandchildren: Thomas M. Scecina Jr., Michelle Scecina, Greg Serfaty, Scott (Nichole) Scecina, Alison (Jeff) Haas, Christina and Angela Mihelich; one step-grandchild, Charlie Mihelich; great-grandchild, Jackson Riley Scecina; one sister, Rose Sparks of Linton.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alice I. (Fujko) Scecina; parents: Thomas and Mary (Chuba) Scecina Sr.; brothers and sisters: Michael, George, John, Frank, Mary, Sister Elizabeth, Ann, Helen and Sister Rose Celine.
Funeral service was Thursday at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church with Father Kevin McCarthy officiating. Interment was in St. Paul Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Teresa Cafe Manna.
Dykes Funeral Home in Valparaiso handled the arrangements.
