Charles Leon Meeks, 81, of Chrisman, Ill., passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Paris Community Hospital.
He was born on April 27, 1925 in Dugger to Jesse and Rula Mae (Gibbs) Meeks.
He grew up around Dugger and lived in Chrisman for the past 55 years. He was a member of the Chrisman United Methodist Church and was also active in many civic and social organizations, including the Bloomfield Lodge 148, Danville Consistory, Ansar Shrine, Eastern Star and C.B. Club.
He is survived by two sons: Larry (Rhea) Meeks of Bedford and Howard (Julia) Meeks of Terre Haute; three daughters, Susan (Dan) Liffick of Westfield, Ill., Janet (Jerry) Dye of Hume, Ill., and Julie Lawless of Sidell, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Bedwell of Linton and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Jean (Dunn) Meeks, whom he married on July 16, 1944; three brothers: Paul E. Meeks, Rollie Meeks and an infant brother; and four sisters: Elizabeth Blake, Mabel Bell, Juanita Gray and Beverly May.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman. Interment will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Chrisman.
Friends may meet the family at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. after the visitation, and the public is invited to attend.
