William J. Donnelly Sr., 88, of Sullivan, passed away at 10 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007 in Indianapolis.
He was born in Sullivan on July 24, 1918 to Thomas Donnelly and Carrie Williams Donnelly.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan, the BPOE No. 911 at which he was a past Exalted Ruler, and the American Legion No.139. He was a past mayor of city of Sullivan and former Sullivan County Civil Defense Director. He also served on the Center Ridge Cemetery Board.
He is survived by two sons William J. and wife Patsy Donnelly Jr. of San Angelo, Texas and Robert M. and wife Cyndi Donnelly of Indianapolis; one sister Mary A. Fortune of Indianapolis; four grandchildren Jennifer West, Heather Nugent, Carrie Mize and Kelley Donnelly; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kelly Donnelly; two brothers Thomas W. Donnelly and Robert W. Donnelly.
A gathering of friends will be held from 6-8 p.m.on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Sullivan. A Memorial service will be at the church at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Paul McGlasson officiating. Military services will be conducted by Sullivan American Legion No.139, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and Sullivan County VFW Post No. 2459.
