Charles E. Thomas, 83, of Linton, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Born in Frankfort, Ky. on Feb. 25, 1924, he was the son of Anthony W. and Bessie (Spears) Thomas.
He was a 31-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and he served in World War II, Asiatic Pacific, Korean War, and Vietnam. He also retired from J & L Steel as a certified electrician.
He married Anna L. Smith, who survives, on July 5, 1974.
Other survivors include: five sons; William (Candi) Thomas of Linton, Glen (Darla) Damron of Linton, Tim (Renee) Damron of Linton, Jeff (Jennifer) Damron of Jasonville, Roger Damron of Linton; two daughters; Brenda (Todd) Bennett of Linton and Pam (Ron) Trent of Whiting;13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother; Bob Thomas of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters; Helen Tremboli of Huntington, W.V. and Beulah Napier of Wayne, W.V.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Livings and Billie Jewell Thomas; and two brothers, Danny R. Thomas and Harold Thomas.
Funeral service will be held at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton at 11 a.m. on Saturday with Dr. Gene Riker officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton with graveside military rites by the American Legion Post No. 22.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday.
