Gertrude Evelyn "Gertie" Sturgis, 89, of Bloomington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 at Bloomington Hospital.

Born Oct. 20, 1917 in Tonawanda, New York, she was the daughter of Gustav and Emma Mussall.

She had been a Bloomington resident since 1950 after moving from Detroit. She was a 40-year member of the T.O.P.S. Club.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Frank V. and Judy Sturgis, of Bloomington and Robert and Linda Sturgis, of Solsberry; one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Sturgis, of Bloomington; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Sturgis, of Fishers, Mark Sturgis, of Muncie, Debra Sturgis, of Spencer, Robert "Bobby" Sturgis, Jr., of Bloomington, Daniel Sturgis, of Florence, Indiana, Donna Camp, of Evansville, Ricky Sturgis, of Ellettsville, Melissa Sturgis, of Gillette, Wyoming, David Sturgis, of Bloomington, and Evelyn "Jeannie" Reed, of Bloomington; 17 great-grandchildren, Lauren Sturgis, Steven Sturgis, and Natalie Sturgis, all of Fishers, Chandler Sturgis, of Muncie, Lucy Lankford, of Spencer, Stephanie Sturgis, of Seymour, Tennessee, Heather Sturgis, Brandon Sturgis, and Chris Sturgis, all of Gosport, Brian Camp, of Evansville, Jackson Sturgis and Avery Sturgis, both of Bloomington, Samantha Higgins, Jessica Higgins, and Zachary Higgins, all of Gillette, Wyoming, and Chelsea and Brooke Reed, both of Bloomington; and two nieces, Laverne Hoffman and Yvonne Durham, both of Carlton, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank V. Sturgis, Sr., whom she married on Aug. 1, 1936, and who died in 1992; one son, Richard R. Sturgis, in 2006; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Sturgis; one grandson, William Joseph Sturgis; two sisters, Violet and Helen; and one brother, Roy Mussall.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Day Funeral Home Chapel in Bloomington with Pastor Frank Van Allen officiating. Entombment will follow in Valhalla Mausoleum.

Friends may visit the family at the funeral home Friday from 3-8 p.m., and Saturday from noon until service time.
