R. Aletta Walton, 88, of Loogootee passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at Martin County Health Care and Rehab Center in Loogootee.
Born Sept. 27, 1918 in Martin County, she was the daughter of Ronald A. and Nellie (Ledgerwood) Divine.
She had worked at Reliance Shirt Factory in Loogootee; and owned and operated the former Dog & Suds Restaurant and Walton's Restaurant. She has also worked at Alco Dime Store in Loogootee and sold Avon products.
A 1938 graduate of Loogootee High School, she was a member of the Loogootee United Methodist Church, United Methodist Church Quilters, Super 60s Club, and played organ at the Burns City United Methodist Church and the Alfordsville Methodist Church.
Survivors include: sons, Jim Walton and his wife, Martha, of Mitchell, Dean Walton of Boonville and Bob Walton and his wife, Sheryl, of Mitchell; daughters, Janet Hart and husband, Fred, of Linton, Linton Hagerty and husband, Bill, of Rockport; a sister, Helen Massey of Brownsburg; brothers, Wayne Divine of Indianapolis, Leonard Divine of Portland, OR, and Donald Divine of Loogootee; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrison "Phil" Walton who died in 1978; sisters, Naomi Doris Divine, Lela Smith, Louis Profitt; and brothers, Herbert Divine and Harvey Divine.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Loogootee United Methodist Church.]
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Brocksmith Funeral Home in Loogootee and Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
