Gene R. Mackey, 69, of Sandborn, passed away on Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 27, 1937, in Connersville, the son of Don and Thelma (McHale) Mackey.
He was a machine operator at International Harvester, retiring in 1985, after being employed there for 30 years. He was a Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 22 and VFW Post No. 7118, both in Linton.
He is survived by his wife, Carla K. (Dunning) Mackey, of Sandborn, to whom he was married June 12, 1993; two sons, Steve Mackey of Carthage and James Raymond Mackey of Greenfield; a daughter, Marie Ellen Dokes of Carmel; two step-sons, Herb Piker of Switz City and Bobby Piker of Pleasantville; three step-daughters, Mary Farmer of Linton, Brenda Reed of Jasonville and Becky Kuehn of Linton; a sister, Lenora Gerard of Delphi; three grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Mackey and Gary Mackey, and his parents.
Funeral service will be conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel at 11 a.m. (EST) on Thursday with the Rev. Russell Black officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Linton American Legion and VFW.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. EST today, and after 9 a.m. EST on Thursday at the funeral home.
