Gertude Ottilie Vaughn, of Madison, Ala., passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007.
She was born in Sandhofen-Mannheim, Germany to Marie and Willie Spatz and raised during World War II.
She came to the United States in 1966 and traveled to many places during her husband's military career before finally settling in Madison. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madison and the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Vaughn; daughter, Jutta Groeger; sons Ralph and Gerry Vaughn; brother, Werner Spatz; and sisters, Sigrid Young, Emmi Rigas, Ruth Koster and Edith Griggs; grandchildren Jasmine and Marko Groeger of Germany, and Brittany Ottilie Vaughn, whom she helped to raise.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Dedra, Lohtar, Edelegard and Mary Ann Spatz.
Service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Madison.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Madison Chapel Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the start of service.
