Jack L. Slater, 69, of Jasonville, passed away at 9:38 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at his residence.
Born April 5, 1937 in Vincennes, he was the son of Jesse Conard Slater and Marie (St. John) Slater.
He served on the Jasonville Police Department as chief of police and as an officer. He retired from Standard Register in Terre Haute where he worked as a printer. He was a member of the Jasonville Assembly of God Church, Democratic Party and American Legion Post 172. He was a member of the Jasonville City Council.
Survivors include: his wife, Cynthia Burkett Slater of Jasonville; daughters, Peggy Johnson of Jasonville, Lisa Slater of Farmersburg and Michelle Kerns of West Terre Haute; sons, Dave Burkett of Coalmont, Gary Burkett of Princeton, Jay Slater of Sullivan, Larry Slater of Farmersburg and Keith Burkett of Jasonville; sisters, Patricia Dorman of Stanford, Connie Wools of Linton, Rosie Dickey of Jasonville, Donna Carlisle of Jasonville and Nancy Caddell of Jasonville; a brother, Jimmy Slater of Jasonville; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alton Slater.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville with Pastor Sam Bush officiating. Burial will follow at Peavey Cemetery in Howesville.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
