John T. Gillaspy, 78, of Spencer, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at Select Specialty Hospital in Bloomington.
He was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Monroe County to Raymond A. and Nellie (Davis) Gillaspy. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Spencer, and a World War II and a Korean War veteran with the U.S. Navy Merchant Marines.
He was the publisher of the Ellettsville Journal, Spencer Evening World, The Owen Leader, Clay City News, Hoosier Topics, and World Arts Commerical Printing; and was a director at the Owen Community Bank.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Adriana "Meme" (Briscoe) Gillaspy; sons and daughters-in-law, John A. and Lisa Gillaspy, Thomas B. and Valarie Gillaspy, both of Spencer, Philip L. and Barbie Gillaspy of Poland; two sisters, Carol May and Janet Cooter, both of Ellettsville; and four grandchildren, Melissa, Nick, Julie and Adrian Gillaspy. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Kramer.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was today at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Spencer with Father Paul Dede officiating. Burial will follow in Chambersville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Catholic Church or the Owen County Community Foundation, John T. Gillaspy fund, in care of the West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home.
