Herbert Lee Sparks, 74, of Bloomfield, passed away at 12:14 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006 at Lyons Health and Living Center.
Born Nov. 20, 1931 in Greene County, he was the son of Dexter and Lettie (Breeden) Sparks.
He was a warehouse worker for NSWC Crane retiring in 1991 after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Mount Zion Wesleyan Church, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Zorah Shrine, Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include: one daughter, Teresa and her husband Allen Empson of Bloomfield; two sons, Jay D. and his wife Robin Sparks of Terre Haute, and John L. of Lyons; five grandchildren, Luke and Jayson Sparks of Terre Haute, and Sara, Kara, and Annie Empson of Bloomfield; two sisters, Mildred Martindale and Mae Buskirk both of Solsberry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, whom he married Aug. 19, 1995, Mary M. Sparks, on Sept. 10, 2002, and three brothers, Hollis, Joseph Elsworth, and Austin.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Robert Martindale and the Rev. John Moffett officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Chapel Cemetery with military rites by Solsberry American Legion post.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, and one hour prior to service Wednesday at the funeral home.
